joebudzjoe (39), USA May 8, 2008 clear dark brown body with a nice frothy tan head. mellow aroma of malts and sweet milk chocolates. mellow finish with a moderate texture. the tounge stays excited well after the sip. a very good beer. FatTony (71), Augusta, Georgia, USA May 6, 2008 12 ounce bottle- poured out a dark tea color with a long lasting wheat colored head that left plenty of ringed lacing in the glass. Aroma was light malty chocolate. The taste was all you could ask for in a brown ale, hints of caramel and toffee with a light sweetness and no bite. Slightly thin on the palate. After a horrible experience with the Brooklyn Pilsner, ( I would rather drink Milwaukee’s Best out a work boot), I was hesitant to try their Brown Ale, but they may have redeemed themselves here. durhambeer (200), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 3, 2008 Draft at Raleigh WBF. Malty hops on the nose, sweet aroma. Same on palate. Thin, though, and too much sweetness. Quite average, but I would happily get one on tap every once in awhile. yesyouam (279), Fairport, New York, USA May 3, 2008 Brooklyn Brown Ale is a dark reddish brown with a frothy light brown head that fades to a blotchy film. The head retention is excellent and it leaves thick sheets of foam on the glass. It has a full, malty, chocolaty, roasty aroma that’s fresh, a touch sweet and a bit spicy. The bouquet is dusty. It has a medium-light body and it’s pretty smooth. The finish is dry and a little gritty. The flavor is mellow, roasty, lightly bitter and a touch sour. It tastes like brown sugar and it’s grainy. It has pretty good balance. Good stuff. mgoy (229), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Apr 29, 2008 Brooklyn Brown Ale is a deep mahogny color with a small and disappearing khaki head. The aroma is very light and developed by the sweet malts used in brewing. The flavor has some notes of chocolate and hops. This is a little more watery than I like, and leaves a poor aftertaste.
I would have rated this higher is the head were more fully developed. This is a common problem amongst the Brooklys Brewery offerings I have tried.
