Jul 3, 2008 On tap at Malt & Vine. Pours clear dark brown with a massive tan head. Sweet aroma of figs, raisins, brown sugar and roasted nuts. Sweet full body and minimal carbonation. This beer is a malt bomb, with figs nuts, caramel, raisins all showing up in the taste, with the figs at the lead. Semi-sweet finish. Add one to the "dessert beer" column.

Jul 2, 2008 11.2oz bottle from Whole Foods Hill Crest. Pours ruby with a big and very faint tan head. Nose of cocoa, raspberry and light malt vinegar. Sweet with some Flemish brown sour notes. Spicey (cinnamon?) with chocolate, and plums with a little brown sugar.

Jun 27, 2008 Looks fine with a huge fluffy brown head and a dark brown body. Aroma is very disappointing, faint notes of port wine and suger with alchohol being the strongest scent comming out. In the flavor it feels like alchohol and co2 is the only content, had to dig deep to detect anything else.

Jun 18, 2008 Appearance: Pours hazy, medium brown body with a full, foamy, off-white head.
Smell: Sourish, fruity aroma smelling of a blend of cherries and raisins, brown sugar, booze, and dusty, dry cocoa powder.
Taste: Sugary sweet raisins and cherries with occasional pops of sourness. Slight dry, nutty malts. Tiny hint of unsweetened cocoa powder. Fairly low bitterness. Peppery alcohol character. Drying, semi-sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: Fine and drinkable, sure, but I just couldn’t get too into it. I guess a pirate’s life is NOT for me.

May 18, 2008 A brown apperance with a large head. The aroma is chocolate, mint,and raisins. The flavor contains chocolate, caramel, raisins, and a hint of peppermint. A very carbonated mouthfeel on this one. Overall pretty good.
