Pours dark chocolately brown to black. Smell is fresh, bright, yet chocolatey. Taste is more caramel than roasty chocolate, and is mildly fizzy with a medium body. Pretty average, and not very interesting or flavorful. DougShoemaker (2491), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2008 Aroma is malt, creme brulee, cola and yeast, garnet, pours an enormous, noisy, rocky head, yards of lace. Flavour is caramelized brown sugar, mild treacle too. Medium bodied, with an interesting sweet burn at the back of the mouth, probably a combo of the sweetness and alcohol? Fine rendition. Ole_R (1004), Oslo, Norway Apr 23, 2008 Bottle. Cloudy dark reddish brown. Stable beige head. Initial aroma of roast and caramel, then some notes of mild coffee, cocoa and dried dark fruits. Taste is roasted dark malts and burnt candysugar. Notes of bitter licorice, raisins and alcohol. Well prononced bitterness. Medium body. Roast and malt-bitterness in the finish. MiP (4486), Flensburg, Germany Apr 17, 2008 Draught at ZBF08. Roasted creamy aroma. Quite flavourful. Good roasted, quite sweet. A little vinous aftertaste. Nice.
Indra (1766), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Apr 15, 2008 750ml bottle. Mildly sweet chocolate malt aroma, roasty, gently musty and fruity with background notes of red grape, spicy, estery yeast and a touch of brown sugar. Dark red-brown in color, nearly black, with a lasting, foamy ivory head and copious amounts of lacing to match. Flavor is full of chocolate and dark caramel malt sweetness, lightly roasty and milky with a touch of burnt sugar and licorice appearing late, along with a hint of tangy dried fruit. Finely creamy effervescence with a silky, lightly coating feel and a medium-full body. Pleasant enough but not in the same class as, say, Ellezelloise Hercule.
