Heathen (443), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 THOUGHTS: I was waiting to try this for a little while. Smells lovely, but the flavor is just OK at first, but it did get better at it warmed. Banana is stronger in the aroma early and wear in flavor then reverses as it warmed.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium amber with a small to nonexistent , off-white head that quickly diminished. The aroma was light nutty malt, but mostly banana. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was light to moderately sweet and bitter with an average duration. There was banana then kind of nutty malt, then some more banana at the end once it warmed up a little then some bitter hops. The light to medium body was oily up front and dry in the back with tingly carbonation and a light to moderate finish. Hollywoodt (161), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle. Aroma was as advertised... fairly strong banana. The taste had the flavor of banana bread, but was just kind of blah. Not terribly great carbonation. azlondon (456), Greater London, England Jun 27, 2008 Appearance: Bronze. Little bit of head.
Aroma: Very banana-y. Not much else.
Taste: Loads of banana. Bit of malt. Bitter.
Info: 568ml bottle, 15/6-2006, 125/300 Cybercat (364), USA Jun 24, 2008 I had to buy this beer because I LOVE bananas. When they called it a banana beer, they meant it.
Aroma is strong, and banana scent dominates. It pours a nice golden amber with a decent but not persistent head. Flavor is rich and very banana-y so it is rather like drinking a liquid banana - very distinctive. There is a fair amount of hop flavor and a touch of malt and yeast. Texture is smooth and pleasant, but just a little zingy.
Caution: Keep away from monkeys. :D hellbilly (732), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jun 24, 2008 bottle by way of StFun... pours a clear honey color with a thin white head which possesses great retention and leaves behind trails of foamy lacing. smells of over ripe bananas, near rotting that have been used to bake in a bread... toasted walnuts, spices and spicy hops, caramel and bready grains. it tastes like a run of the mill beer poured over a big hunk of really good banana bread... caramel malt, ripe cooked bananas, brown sugar, toasted nuts, vanilla, nutmeg and spicy hops before a lightly tart dry finish. medium body with an airy texture and soft mouth feel. unique... delivers as promised.
i tried to give this a serious rating. but it’s rather difficult given my admiration for bananas... i mean, i DO have a banana tattooed on me so take my rating with a grain ;-)
