beernovice39 (240), South Carolina, USA Nov 9, 2009 Well, this seemed a tad boozy to me. However, the more I drank the more a liked. This stuff is thick! 2009 version. at 10.5% Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Nov 8, 2009 Light aroma but has elements of rich malts and slighted hops. Taste is dry hops and bitter flavors. Has some sweetness on the finish but mainly sits with bitter dryness. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Nov 8, 2009 On tap at the Flying Saucer Fort Worth. Malt aroma and a little hops. Sticky sweet taste with pine and hops. Great mouthfeel and aftertaste. WhatNewinBooze (15), Centennial, Colorado, USA Nov 7, 2009 This past week Stone Brewery released their tenth edition of the Double Bastard Ale, a doubled up version of their popular Arrogant Bastard Ale. I have loved the Arrogant Bastard for many years now and the Double Bastard is just that much better. It pours are golden copper color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is kind of sweet with notes of caramael and cane sugar with a slight bit of citrus from the hops. At first taste the Double Bastard comes across well balanced between the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness of the hops, but as the beer lingers the hops really start to show through. I get flavors of caramel, dark chocolate, anise and citrus and since this beer is 10.5% ABV the flavors are intense and dominating.
Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Nov 6, 2009 Pint on tap with thortheviking after devils/islanders game. Pour is maroonish brown with slight suddy white head atop. Sticky with plenty of piney and citrus hops, malts, and sweet dark fruits...then some more on top. Palate is tingly and spicy. Indications of alcohol but amazing well hidden, like a troll under a bridge. Made my soar throat all feel better. Maybe the cure for swine flu ericsondr (8), Camano Island, USA does not count Nov 6, 2009 This is the best Ale of it’s type I’ve had. It boasts a dark amber color with a brownish white micro foam head. The second you lift the glass to your mouth you smell the spicy citrus tones that also make the flavor of this brew so unique. It also leaves a pleasant aftertaste on your palette. kwerikson (62), burlington, New Jersey, USA Nov 5, 2009 pours out murky brownish amber in color with a slow forming off white tannish head that is some what bubbly. the body is a deep mahogony some what brown amber. the aromas are in your face and i am picking up merlot grapes, roasted malts, some sugar and alcohol. there is also a decent amount of lacing forming in the glass. the taste is very smooth and reminiscent of the original brew. there is a strong comanding hoppiness all the way across the palate. it is medium bodided and a very nice amount of carbonation that has good mouth feel. and dare i say this, this brew in my opinion is a lot smoother then the original and enjoyable. i could drink this all night. also, the aftertaste is very strong and unforgiving and alcohol is very prevelent on the tongue and i feel it burn as it goes down. a really nice beer from the masters of stone brew. planky84 (99), , Greater London, England Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a reddish brown with a white head. Nutty nose with aromas of caramel, plum, brown sugar, chocolate. Flavours of figs, malts, dark fruits, raisins. Finishes malty and hoppy with a warming alcohol feel.
