Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Pours very dark brown-amber almost black. Thin off-white head dissipates very quickly. Aroma of plums, raisins and other dark fruit. Also has that great Belgium yeast aroma. Very carbonated, medium bodied mouthfeel. Has a light bitter aftertaste. Flavor is dominated by dark fruits, almost over ripe in fruit flavor. Has a bitterness to the taste as well. Very strong stuff. Ok but not great. I wouldn’t drink it again.

From a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. Pours with an inch of dark foam which dissipates into nothing in about one minute; no lacing. Aroma is of plums, black grapes, grass, yeast and a little bit of coffee. Color is dark brown, almost purple; very cool! Taste is of clove, banana, blackberry, plum, yeast and alcohol. Alcohol is not overpowering and gives it a nice warm feeling. I don’t have too much experience with Belgian dark ales to compare this one to, but it’s very tasty. I think it could have used a slightly thicker body as the carbonation, while a good amount, made it just a little to fizzy to drink. In my experience, light body and fizzyness is a common thread over most Unibroue beers. Overall, a great beer, one that I’d happily drink again. Le Cheers!

Pours out of the bottle a dark black with a tan head that is about one finger thick and goes away pretty quick. Mouthfeel is medium, kind of thin but still a bit creamy. Taste is great, pretty malty and earthy with a fruityness to it.

Poured from a bottle giving a slightly tan head which lasted quite a while. The aroma is typical Unibroue yeast aroma. Tastes slightly sweet, fruity, and hints of raisins. The finish is really smooth.

Sweet, but without being overly fruity like many Belgian beers. It’s very rich, and it really does have a flavor of port wine. I’m not sure how they accomplished this, but it really doesn’t have the normal malt and hop flavors that most beers are based on. It reminds me more of a cocktail of red wine, cherry juice, and liquor. Interesting - but not something I would drink on a regular basis.

Pours a deep brown with creamy beige head and some lace. Taste of sugars and red fruits fades quickly, but the tart smell of the same is quite nice.

Pours dark like a porter. Small head dissipates nearly immediately. Smells of caramel, raisons, bananas and yeast. Mouth slightly effervescent. Taste: fruit and yeast, bananas and spice, finishes first fruity and then with sharp licorice. Very complex and rewarding. Alcohol not noticeable at all. Excellent Belgian.
