This is a great little beer. Taste more like a liquor Chocolate, Caramel, Raspberry it’s all here a great little after dinner desert beer. This would even be great poured over ice cream. A true treat of a beer and worth seeking out even if just for the novelty of it!

Huge thanks to Bobby91w for this tasty treat. Pours browner than I thought it would - a ruddy medium brown, with only a small ring of bubbles around the edge. The aroma is simply delectable - raspberry syrup, tons of caramel... like something you might drizzle over a great cheesecake. The flavor doesn’t quite pull through, though - mouthfeel is great, but there’s a grassy note that takes away from the pungent raspberry, and the alcohol shines a bit through the rest of the brew. Still great, but probably a bit over-hyped.

2007. aroma is candy sweet raspberry with jelly quality similar to swedish fish. boozy note seems to come and go but appears minor even when it reveals. deep, dark maroon with essentially nil carb. flavor is mouth watering, juicy fruit with raspberry predominant and submissive caramel malt.. cut with brown sugar sweetness that brings interesting carmelization to the mix and nutty, dopplebock like booze that comes and goes as it did in the aroma. amazingly soft on the palate despite its strength, though it makes itself known in a brandy like burn. so rewarding to have such a complex fruit beer that still displays signs of actual beer, not just a fruit juice bomb.

2007 bottle. pours a deep brown with no head. aroma is bursting with caramel, chocolate, malts, raspberries. drinks very smooth with chocolate and caramel up front and a nice malt sweetness. raspberries come as you swallow and through the after taste. alcohol isnt really noticable while drinking. fantastic brew and i want more!

2004 Vintage. Thank you, Peter. Pours out a flat and very viscous opaque garnet-tinged mahogany brown that throws off a lot of sediment. The raspberry aroma is still fresh and vibrant and is intermingled with caramel, dark chocolate, soft banana, and subtle spice. The flavor follows through from this with more raspberry and cocoa and caramel fermentation notes. The body is well structured with the alcohol definitely in check which offers a lot of substance. It would benefit from a bit a carbonation to add another level of dimension to the palate. This was a great treat.

2004 bottle with a huge thanks to captaincougar! consumed christmas morning 2009. Pours a dark, murky brown with a tiny light tan head. leaves a ring of small bubbles around the perimeter of the glass. Aroma opens up with some chocolate covered cherries, toffee, bread pudding, and cocoa dust. really quite nice. flavor is a semi tart cherry, basement, caramel, grape mixture with a little booze thrown in for extra character. Mouthfeel is super silky smooth and slightly sticky. superb! This is quite the unique beer. An extremely tasty, drinkable, and satisfying, beer, red wine, spirit mixture. awesome. Very well put together- exceded expectations. Thanks again Tom!

On tap during ’09 Winter Solstice. ’07 Version. Poured a murky burnt umber with minimal head. Aroma was very strong, with sweet raspberries, caramel with a surprisingly small amount of alcohol. There was a slight undertone of honey on the nose. The alcohol was much more present on the tongue, but it meshed well with the raspberry and caramel flavors. The aftertaste left a honey note on your tongue. Surprisingly smooth on the tongue as well.

Been holding on to this one for a while.. Opened it to mark my new job offer. 2007 bottle. Nose of cocoa, sweet malt and raspberry filled the room after opening. Hazy burgundy color, looks thick. No head whatsoever. After a tiny carbonated kick up-front, very little carbonation profile. This would be a great after-dinner treat, almost a dessert liquor. Flavor is a little over sweet, toffee, cocoa raspberry and heavy malt to balance the high alcohol. Lot of sediment in the bottom of my glass. A delicious treat to mark a special occasion-- Looking forward to seeing how this one ages.
