Commercial Description:
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

Dark one with a brown head. The vanilla smell is very strong but light aromas of hazelnuts are detectable.Holala, intense tastes of vanilla, roast almonds and nuts are dancing on my tongue. One of the best Imperial Stout ever. Dieu du Ciel encore BRAVO.

[on tap at brewpub] Tons of roasted barley in the aroma that gives a sort of bubblegum accent. Also a touch of vanilla. Almost opaque brown-black covered by lasting beige flannel. Velvety prune-mocha flavour that begins sweet, evolves to a dark malt bitterness and finishes with hazelnut. Smooth feel, moderate hops bitterness, low carbonation.

Pitch dark with a thick moka head. Nose of sweet chocolate and plums. Wow! What a great stout it is! Full bodied, with loads of bittersweet chocolate, a bit of roastiness, so creamy, a real dessert. I don’t know if the fact that it was a 2 years old sample is really different than from younger examples, but this was close to nirvana. I prefer by far this one to the péché mortel. On tap at the pub

Probably the best imperial stout available in Quebec but not in bottle, only on tap at DDC on rue Laurier. Less coffee-aggressive than Peche Mortel, so smooth in taste and texture that it is hard to guess that this is a 8,5% ABV (I think it was written 9,5% on the board). Great bitterness in the aftertaste. God, do tap do good to stout!

DDC Draft. Black body with a tan head. Lots of bitter chocolate, vanilla, carmel sweet taste. Etoh is noticable in a fruit like flavor complementing the chocolate. Real Good. .

(Rating #1960)
