GMCC2181 (277), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 5, 2008 I think josh sent this to me so THANKS! Nice amber color, with a small head that faded quickly. Good lacing as well. Aroma is lots of grapefruit and citrus/pine hops. Taste is smooth, maltier then I expected but still good. The bitterness comes up front followed by a stong malt backing. No trace of alcohol. Texture is slightly above medium and low carbonatiion. Easy to drink. I was impressed by the smoothness of the beer. Overall a solid DIPA, that is worth buying! Thanks again StFun! travita (631), Lewisville, Texas, USA Jul 3, 2008 Amber colored and clear with a decent off white head. Smell is caramel, fruit, malts, hops, and alcohol. Taste is hot with alcohol. Sweet caramel and a good bitterness. tarjei (941), Bryne, Norway Jun 30, 2008 355 ml bottle - tasting with yngwie, gunnfryd and Beer_2000. Hazy amber/orange color, beige head. Aroma has very nice hops and fruit. Flavor is hops, some spices, fruit, nice sweetness. Lovely hoppy imperial pale ale. Stine (1261), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2008 A gift from jasonp. Pours fully hazed, bright orange. A thin, creamy silk. Deli rye pushes breadiness in the nose. Floral perfumes waft a subdued, alcoholic earthiness. Biscuits, brown sugars, and the dirtiest citrus fruits layer the girth and brutishness of unrestrained sweetness, but at the moment of reckless abandon the softness of the hops seem to pull it back, with a wooden bitterness.
Biting celery seed and artichoke hop pungency in the flavor. Slick malts, heavy on tangy floral honey. Perfume alcohol again unmistakable. Rye nicely placed for the most part; easy to locate but easy to ignore. Hops play coy at times to a very sweet, almost syrupy but well built malt profile, but consistently lend a cool resinous punch and a creamy vegetal earthiness.
Heavy but somewhat effervescent palate; dries out a little in the finish with some pine-bitten alcohol, tending to linger with a bit of syrupy sweetness. If it could hollow out a little more on a crushing dryness of hops the memorable qualities of the beer would be wrapped up and packaged nicely. Altogether, a surprisingly fine example. Thanks Jason! yngwie (3311), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy, orange body with a small beige head. Really malty and hoppy with sugary and malty sweetness, as well as lots of pine and resin. I’m thinking rye as well, but not sure if that’s because of the beer’s name. Full-bodied, sticky sweet in the mouth with lots of sugary maltyness and enough pine and resin to make it balanced. The alcohol is well hidden, making it a dangerous beer, as it’s quaffable as hell. A beauty of a kind we’re sure missing in Norway. (080626)
