SuperDave70 (641), Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Deep black pour with a ring of brown head. Aroma of smoke, dark chocolate, roasted grain and malt, coffee and dark fruit. Lots of great flavors, following pretty closely with the aroma. A bit of hops and warming alcohol on the finish. A really big, beautiful brew! probstk (627), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2008 500 ml bottle shared with Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a goblet. BB21.03.11.
App.: Very dark brown-black, remnants of a mocha head.
Aroma: Worcestershire sauce – briny, savoury, meaty; very smoky (like a Rauchbier), a bit of chocolate, coffee and fruit, metallic, huge.
Palate: Medium+ body and moderate carbonation.
Flav.: Enormous! Massive gobs of figs, raisins, and dried fruits, smoky French-roasted coffee and dark chocolate, a touch metallic, some alcohol, huge and thick and oily, sticks around for a long time.
Massive and beautifully executed. oteyj (254), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours dead black with one finger frothy beige head. Aroma is roasty malt with some caramel and hops. Quite pronounced and full. Flavor is lots of roasted malt with excellent hop bittering and an almost creamy taste. Palate is thich and rich with a definite creamy element. Expertly crafted and balanced- this is a great beer for its style. sneagrams3 (1342), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 12, 2008 The Dan Journal #194. Tasted 7/3/08. 22oz bomber. Pitch black with a tan ring of head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and leather. Meaty and smokey. Full bodied with a big palate. Big bitterness. Sticky with falvors of coffee and dark berries. Caramel and bitter rye. Dark chocolate and syrupy. Smooth and delicious! tarc (40), New Jersey, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle:
Aroma was of roasted malt, not over powering. Pour was dark and thick iwth a very slight head that disaparted quickly. Flavor was delicious malt and roast sweet almost like a barly wine but lower in alchol. Finished very smooth.
