Pizza Port None the Weisser

On draft at Pizza Port C’bad. Pours a deep brown hue with reddish highlight, small rocky head and good lacing. The aroma has note of strong wheat and yeast esters, think banana and clove wrapped around toffee and smoked malts with a dash of herbal hops and you would get the idea. The taste is spot on for the genre with nice fruity notes working with the carmel malts producing a depth of palate that was quite nice. A little puff of smoke along with some warm spices to round off the flavor. The mouth feel was smooth and refreshing with a medium-bodied finish, a very delicious brew!!!

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a minimal beige head that disappears fairly fast. Nil lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits and earthy malt, with a touch of coffee. Medium-bodied with a fruity character of bananas and plum, and flavors of yeast, malt and spices. The finish is clean and fruity with a lingering spiced aftertaste. One of the better Weizen Bocks I have tried lately.

Well, it’s been over 3 years since my last rating on Ratebeer. The drinking didn’t stop - but I did get a tad burned out on typing in my thoughts... so what brought about this return to ratebeer??? Pizza port! Of the pizza port beers we tried - this was definitely the most impressive to me. Really great flavor, hints of banana and a nice thick texture.

Draft at Pizza Port Carlsbad; Nose of caramel, vanilla, and banana; clear very dark brown with a small beige head; flavor is fruity with light hop bitterness and sweetness, and spices.

On tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Fest poured a clear brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of wheat, burnt carmel and coffee. Palate was medium bodied smooth and slightly dry. Flavors of coffee, wheat, burnt carmel and light fruittiness with a smooth lingering bitter finish.
