Davinci (258), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 29, 2008 Tasted at the WLV tasting. I agree with 17th that this was a wonderful and delicious treat. Perhaps I was a bit toasty by the time this one came out, but I definately found to be better than what the rest of the chi-town crew are giving it. So it goes I suppose. Deep black pour with very little in the way of head. Aromas were very unusual. Chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, some very herbacious notes, licorice. I could keep my nose over this all day. Flavors folow suite, roasty, chocolate, soy, some other elements that are hard to define... especially cause I lost my notes from that day :*( I agree that there wasnt a strong or rather identifiable brett character, though I’m not sure what it would be like in a 15% stout anyway. In any case I am very glad to have been able to try this rare treat and am very much looking forwarf to trying the barrel aged version this summer ;) 17thfloor (729), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 24, 2008 Updated: May 21, 2008Shared at WLV liquors... Thank you Ted for keeping this one for so long! Out of the 30 beers we tasted this day this one stood out the most... and in a good way regardless of what these others say on here =p shame shame. Strong varnish aroma, spicy, nutty and some plums. Pours very dark brown. Sweet raisin, plum and cherry flavors, some chocolate and soy as well. pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 8, 2008 huge thanks to the folks at wlv who shared this rare gem. . a dark brown our almost black with no head whatsoever.... ghastly aroma of sour, spoiled vegetables and soy which i couldn’t quite stand.... flavors didn’t help out at all either. sweet, sour, chocolate, seaweed, spoiled vegetables which was difficult to keep down.....this one garnered a wide variety of reactions. some liked it and found it very unique. i thought that it was pretty different in a bad way. my facial reaction really showed it all. i’m glad i don’t have a picture of it. i’m hoping that i can attribute this to a poorly mishandled bottle. drewbeerme (1840), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 6, 2008 Updated: Apr 8, 2008bottle. pours black with no head. an odd aroma, extremely vegetal, soy, and some chemical i can’t put my finger on, there seems to be some cherry notes in there as well. flavors are chocolatey, soy, and herbs. perhaps this has aged horribly. i didn’t get any brett either. alcohol was pretty well hidden for 15% but this is just a mess of a beer. in the end pantanap’s face and the instant almost depressive episode afterwards gave the best review of this beer. cheer up bud, you’ll be drinking M soon I thought. holdenn (1161), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 6, 2008 Sampled by bottle at West Lake View Tasting. So I was really excited the good people at WLV decided to open this one up for this generous tasting. But I was blown away (in the opposite direction) by this one. Pours brown black with no head. This nose says this beer had bottling problems or was seriously abused by heat. Vegetables, soy sauce, and fresh hops before they are even thrown in the boil. Sweet flavors. Chocolate, roasted malts, and booze. Full chunky body. Touch of alcohol with a harsh and nearly unbearable soy sauce. What’s goin on here? No brett detected and its kinda the let down of the year. Terrible.
