Black with a brown head. Aroma moderate malty (burned malt, licorice, tar, oak, heavy smoky). Flavor moderate to heavy sweet, the smoke is discrete. Full body, soft carbonated. Vintage 2005. Beer2000 (1828), Kristiansand, Norway
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 24, 2009 375 ml bottle. Totally black body with a small and disappearing brown head. A strong but nice aroma of strong roasted malt, peat and tar. Flavor is heavy roasted/burnt malt with peat, tar and oak. Intense, raw aroma and flavor makes a pretty thin line between beer and Islay Whisky here. Enjoyed this a lot, but there’s a clear limit for how much of this raw flavor I’m able to consume. Even such a small bottle is fine for charring, still a damn good piece of work this. charlotte (2036), Vanløse, Denmark

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2008 500 ml bottle - thanks to after4ever for sharing another euro impy; pours thin and brown with thin dark brown head; appearance the only underwhelming feature here; peaty and smokey aromas with tons of sweet whiskey; almost wine-like in texture and little to no carbonation; silky smooth, earthy, some seaweed, peaty and again lots of whiskey, but never overwhelming; pretty killer jbrus (4883), Delft, Netherlands

Start is sweet, chocolate and vanilla. In the middle wood, strong chocolate. The finish is very peaty. Oily mouthfeel with a dusty finish. Strong flavours, very complex. after4ever (2794), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours jet black. Very thin tan head. Huge Islay nose--peat, soke, salt air, seaweed. Creamy edium body. Coffee mid-palate with peat, iodine, phenols, seaweed, and salt. Long salty finish.
This beer has been totally dominated--I mean thrashed around and left for dead--by its time in the Bowmore casks. Somehow, the overbearing whisky flavors and aromas IMPROVE the beer. One of the few, if only, examples I can think of where this has happened. Delightful. LisaR (46), Gothenburg, Sweden

Black color with a small brown head. Aroma and taste: Like a mix between Imperial Stout and a Islay Whisky. Notes of smoke, salt, roastiness, licorice, alcohol, coffee, sweetness and wood. Taste both like sweet and salty liqourice.
