Senormac (13), Springfield, Oregon, USA Jul 17, 2008 22 oz. bottle from The Public House in Bend. Very nice aroma of sweet roast and burnt malt together. Pours almost black with a light brown head. Flavor is a deep dark strong stout. Kinda woody and oaky both. Hangs on the palate in a smooth coffee roasted flavor way and finishes with almost no bitter. Overall........very very good !! Hank1980 (324), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 On tap at Citybeer. Pour was black with a thin tan head. Aroma was very nice, with coffee, chocolate, oak. Taste was also of bitter chocolate, coffee, sweet bitter notes, oak, and vanilla. Mouth was excellent, very smooth. Finish was bitter and nice. This is a great rich beer. stefanje (476), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours black with a tan head that quickly recedes to 1/4 inch. The aroma is moderate in strength with chocolate, plums, coffee, dust and licorice. The flavor is dark biter chocolate, black coffee, a bit of anise and some sweet whiskey. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is long with lingering dark biter chocolate . Overall: Worth every bit of the hype that it gets. This is a fine porter. raphael (243), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 17, 2008 On tap at Mickey Finn’s. Soft aroma of chocolate , roasted malt, marshamallow. Opaque near-black w/ vague head. Sfot int he mouth, aromatic, a little weight. Rich flavors of chocolate and coffee, a dark grain sense, licorice later i the glass; and you know iwht all this malt acito there are hops laboring to keep the blanace, which they do. this is the best porter i’ve ever had, or the best sweet strong ale. WeeHeavySD (1539), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bomber from The Bevmo in Encinitas. Pours black with a nice 1 finger tan head. Nose is very rich with a big kick of coffee and a touch of cocoa. Big ole nose I like form a big ole beer. Taste is sweet with a touch of bourbon and a nice roasty quality. This is a damn tasty beer, I can only imagine how good it will be in 4-8 months. Good work Deschutes on pulling another great beer and a great 20 years, it was nice being there in person in January.
