dalekliz (116), San Diego, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a very cloudy yellow-amber with a thick, fluffy white head. Sweet aroma of yeast, hops, cloves, banana. Smooth taste, lots of spices, yeast and a bit of a hoppy bite. Light lingering spicy bitterness. Very tasty. chrisafari (45), Orange, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours clear blonde (was expecting it to be darker) Sweet aroma of belgian yeast. Flavor of orange and pepper. Leaves a nice crisp tartness on the tongue and throat. For a belgian strong ale that is 8.5%, I was expecting it to much more intense. It is really easy to drink. This beer is trouble!! TomDecapolis (2310), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy almost milky yellow/orange with a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma of lemon, bready malt, peppery notes, cherrios, grassy, Belgian yeast esters and other spicy notes. Flavor was bready, toasted malt, peppery/spicy notes, lemon some other citrus, honey, starts sweet and ends dry. gotbeach (109), San Diego, California, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with thick white head. Floral, fruit, yeast aroma. Creamy texture with some spice. I enjoyed the second one even more BBB63 (3667), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle from WeeHeavySD (thanks Jon) and served in my big ole Karmeliet glass, no problems with the cork for me:
Initial pour is a clean deep golden hue with a soft frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of honeycomb, flowery and pungent esters, candi sugar, grassy hops, coriander, grains of paradise, and even a hint of hickory smoke.
The taste is a balanced blend of sweet malt and sugars countered by some hop bitterness and spice. Tasted a bit like a unbaked pie, still raw and fresh. The sharp aggressive mouth feel brings to attention an almost Witbier undertone found towards the end. The whole flavor profile is all over the place and quite frankly very, very interesting I even found a hint of catty hops after half the bottle, weird for it to show up now.
I am honestly not sure about this, there is part of this brew I am digging and parts I wish were more integrated.
