Smell: Dry, caramel-scented maltiness, and, well, it’s fairly oaky. Notes of spicy rye, booze, and citrus.
Taste: Dense pale and caramel maltiness with a perky, medium-high sweetness present. Plenty of smooth oakiness with a mild taste of vanilla. There’s a big bitterness lurking in here. Not picking up much rye. Pinch of citrus zest. Bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium-low carbonaton.
Drinkability: Reasonably tasty, well-made, and surprisingly drinkable. It’s nice to see Terrapin playing around. GAManiac (168), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 18, 2008 Pours a deep clear amber with a big fluffy off-white head that lingers throughout leaving very good lacing.
Smell is mostly sweet malts with vanilla and caramel. There are hints of oak in the smell but not a lot.
The taste is much like the smell but has a bit heavier oak presence, especially as the beer warms. I get a bit more of the rye in the taste as well.
Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and very creamy with a good bit of carbonation.
I really enjoyed this beer and it got better as it warmed.
