Dec 22, 2009 This could pass for a weak barley wins. The oak adds a ton of vanilla and pushes the balance from hops to malt, IMO. Still a great beer, but I think I like the regular version more.

Aug 8, 2009 Pours a deep ruby color with a light brown head. Aroma is malty, caramel, toast, citrus, oak, and a hint of vanilla. Flavor is oak, caramel, crystal malts, sugary, and a sweet citrus finish.

Glass:10 oz.
Appearance:Dark amber pour with a thin beige head.
Aroma:Hints of oak and vanilla, but still dominated by hops.
Flavor:Oak and vanilla mute the hop contribution slightly, but hops are still present.
Palate:Medium/full body with mild carbonation.
Overall:Just the right amount of oak to contribute rather than detract.

Apr 11, 2009 Pours an appetizing, translucent mahogany with a fine-bubbled, slightly reddish tan head. Aroma is richly hoppy and has undertones of spice and wood. Flavor is strongly hoppy but not bitter with a definite oaky undertone and hints of cinnamon candy. Smooth, lively texture leaves a woody, slightly smoky aftertaste. Recommended.

Mar 22, 2009 Tap at Taco Mac Metropolis. Dark amber, slight head, great lace. Aroma was citric hops, oak, and caramel. Flavor matches, with a note of anise weaved into it. Lots of oak in the flavor, mixed with citric hops. Almost too oaky you could say, but not quite. Delighted to try this.

Mar 21, 2009 On tap @ Taco Mac. Another winner from Terrapin. Wish they would bottle this in large format year round. Dark red almost brown, malt and oak aromas, with a touch of soy. Fantastic mouthfeel, substantial not quite oily, but just really satisfying. Perfectly balanced, and unlike many oak aged beers... this one is deftly balanced. So great !!!

Mar 6, 2009 Served on draft at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville. Pours a clear deep red color with a medium head. Poor head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of big spicy hops with toffeish malts. Taste is citrus, resin, toffee, spice, vanilla and oak. Medium to full bodied.

Feb 6, 2009 This beer is magnificient. It has so many flavors to it, but its so simple. Opened my eyes to the magic of aging in the beer world. I respect Terrapin for this beer alone. Go to Highlands right now and try it. You will not regret it no matter what kind of beer-head you are.
