RateBeer.com -- Correct Würzburger Hofbräu Sommerfrisch RadlerWürzburger Hofbräu Sommerfrisch Radler

Description:
WÜRZBURGER HOFBRÄU "SOMMERFRISCH" RADLER “Radler“ is the German word for bicycle rider. As a drink, it was invented by a great Munich gastronomist and character, the landlord Franz Xaver Kugler. The story goes that one day in the summer of 1922, a 13,000-strong horde of cyclists descended on the Kugler Alm, a bar/restaurant that was a focus for excursions and belonged to Kugler. Of course, its stock of beer was inadequate for the thirst of this mass of people. But the clever landlord figured a way out. He mixed the rapidly depleting beer to one half with lemonade, of which he had plenty. He served his guests with this new mix, a "Radlermass" / cyclist’s measure /, saying this drink had been invented specifically for cyclists, so that their ride home would not be unsteady. Radler beer quickly became established in Bavaria and Lower Franconia. Increasing number of fans meant it was inevitable that Würzburger Hofbräu would add this super-drinkable, summer-fresh mix to its range.
