Although lager yeast are used, it is brewed at warmer ale like temperatures and showcases Northern Brewer Hops and a distinct caramel malt character. This style of beer was popularized by Anchor Steam of San Francisco. The owner of Anchor Steam, Fritz Maytag, subsequently trademarked the use of the word "steam" to describe this style of beer.
