6 reviews for Westmere Beverage Center
basewars (8), Albany, New York does not count - explanation | | September 14, 2009 Looks like a warehouse or garage. There’s a wide selection which continues to improve, especially in the last few month. The staff has become more knowledgeable in my opinion. Also, they started selling growlers.
They have a "New Releases" section for easy picking.
In this area, it doesn’t get any better. | | bigrond (31), factoryville, Pennsylvania | | June 3, 2009 set up like a wharehouse. Single bottles are encouraged. Wide selection for a small place. Great distributor. | | oteyj (13), Canterbury, New Hampshire | | May 25, 2009 A most excellent beer garden right off the highway in Albany. Selection is actually quite good; all brews are separated by region brewed, making it easy for me to make a beeline to the Belgian quad section, or the west coast hop-bomb area. Righteous. Staff is knowledgeable and kind. I even scored a couple free glasses. Theres some real gems here if you look hard enough. | | Cletus (175), Connecticut | | January 5, 2009 This place stocks every good regional and has a decent selection of foreign beers. If looking for regionals, go here over Olivers. Overall, the staff is much more knowledgeable as well. | | ABUSEDGOAT (57), California | | December 26, 2007 Westmere is finally in the database, nice. Very similar to Olivers, but I like the staff here better. In general the two stores get very similar stuff, but not the same. I think the American selection here is arguably better while the imports are worse, but thats a generalization. Westmere is very close to my house, I get a lot of freebies and discounts, whereas Olivers rarely offers them. It’s my local beer store when I’m in NY... | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | September 26, 2007 Just happened to go into this store to buy a couple of bags of ice and perhaps some session beer- and what a find! At least three long aisles full of craft beer. Tons of 22’s, six packs, a huge belgian and import aisle. You can buy singles of anything they have in 12 oz bottles. They had some stuff there than I haven’t seen anywhere else in quite a while: Captain Lawrence Nor’Easter, Xtra Gold (2006), as well as their Dubbel. Some heavyweight also on the shelves. Ambiance is typical beverage distributor warehouse. Staff knowledge and service was adequate to above average. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone traveling through Albany. the only con I noticed is that some of the bottles are quite dusty and may be past their prime, especially IPA’s. I should note that this is the sister store of Oliver’s (brew crew). |
