| beachbum25 (53), Powellville, Maryland | | October 4, 2009 Nice little shop w/some good beer, didn’t have tons on hand so maybe they turn it quickly-which would be a good thing. Had DFH, Left Hand, Victory, Weyerbacher, Founders, & BELLS, don’t usually see much of that in this area; Had 1/2 dozen of them! Had some seasonals & there was a Beer & a Wine tasting going on that Saturday afternoon. Great service & prices didn’t seem too bad. No 12oz singles, which was a bummer. Might be worth a trip to score on the bells, not sure if they have it all the time though. Gourmet food didn’t seem all that special. | | OSLO (80), Perth, Australia | | May 27, 2009 Stopped here around rush hour on a Wednesday afternoon. Located in a little strip mall next to a Giant store. Very friendly service that is quick to ask if you need help. Nothing really rare stood out to me, but the selection is quite good nonetheless. Much of what you would find at Total Wine or Whole Foods. The prices were all over the place, ranging from significantly cheaper than some Whole Foods prices, to significantly more expensive than some beers found at Total Wine. Overall I would say that it tends to be closer to the cheaper, Total Wine prices, though. Also, if you are big into DFH WWS and 120, this is the only place I have found them out here for $8.99 instead of $9.99. Worth a stop, especially since it is supporting a non-chain store. | | Goldorak (110), Montreal, Quebec | | April 6, 2008 We were instantly greeted as we came in and got asked if we needed some help, always a good sign. We browsed around the isles to take a look at the selection. They had a lot of stuff, but I was half-expecting to find a little more rarities. Maybe I caught them on a bad week, maybe there just wasn’t too many outstanding brews available at that moment, who knows. A few nice imports were on the shelves, but nothing that made my jaw drop either. But they did carry a lot of the bigger micros and had plenty of local rep as well. Legend Brewing, Williamsburg Aleworks and Old Dominion were all breweries that I knew little or nothing about, so I mostly concentrated on these. They had the Millennium ale aged a few years available, but at over 20 bucks a sixer I decided to pass and go for the ’08 at a more reasonable 10$. For some strange reason, it’s illegal for them to break six packs. Just another one of those zany liquor laws you see now and again I guess. I talked about that with the lady at the register and another employee, they seemed like really nice people. So overall a big thumbs up, I’m glad I went (somewhat) out of my way to find this place.
| | mephisto (37), , Taiwan | | July 3, 2007 this joint has a nice selection of microbrew, but i was quite dissapointed with the wine. beerwise, the price is all right if one lives close enough. | | Braudog (476), Dayton, Ohio | | March 25, 2007 March ’07. Small little shop with a definite emphasis on wine, but a good-enough corner devoted to decent beers. I was able to score a half dozen beers that were new to me, including 2 American micro’s and a few Belgian/French farm ales. Only 22 oz’ers or large imports available in singles ... the six pack rack offered a fair representation, but nothing unusual. They were doing a tasting of sorts when I was there -- some obnoxious loud guy was slugging all the good stuff and asking stupid questions. A distraction, really. Overall, worth a quicky stop if you’re in the neighborhood. | | radagast83 (43), Fairfax, Virginia | | January 13, 2007 [ Updated March 25, 2008 ] Quite a few beers I’ve found there which I can only find in the area after looking extremely hard.
About neck and neck between here and the Springfield Total Wine as to who has a better, or bigger selection (Ricks is smaller, but more unique). Staff was friendly and helpful, place had a decent ambiance.
UPDATE: Returned on 3/22/07, better than the selection has been as of late as it looks like they may have expanded their beer selection a bit from the last 3 times I’ve been there since discovering the place. | | Cobra (23), In a van, down by the river, Maryland | | November 3, 2006 [ Updated July 26, 2008 ] Rick’s is a great place to find rare brews. Once you get in tight with the owner & manager, they will actually order & hold special beers for you.
Plenty of selection, great prices too.
Friendly & knowledgeable staff is always a plus.
This place has gone downhill bigtime. The shelves were almost bare when I was here on a Saturday, no less.
Beer selection has gone down to less than 100 beers. Sad, sad, sad. | | nimbleprop (16), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC | | October 22, 2006 Rick’s keeps a pretty nice stock of American micros and a nice selection of internationals and not just Belgians. Prices are average to high. Southhamptons, Rogues etc. I believe they do beer tastings every Saturday. Staff is mostly educated about wine and lacked the knowledge that other distributors possess. Worth a look though. | mike mcneil (9), St Augustine, Florida does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2006 Fairly decent selection of both domestic and imported beer. Noticed Victory, Thirsty Dog, Weyerbacher, Old Dominion, FFF, Stone, to name a few. Unfortunately was out of Victory Golden Monkey which was what I came in for. Picked up Stoudt’s Double IPA for $8.99 and a bomber of Gumballhead for $4.99 which were both great deals. Well worth a visit if in the area. | nitro7476 (1), Hyner, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | May 3, 2006 Nice beer store that I will definately return to. Good selection of domestics and not quite as many imports, but still good. Of course, I had a hard time deciding what to get, so I spent over an hour just browsing. I would recommend that if you are in the D.C. area that you stop in. |
