Not so big, quite loud and crowded place at the evening. Relatively hard to find (especially at night). Knowledgeable waiter but the bottled beers were too cold. Among Belgian and Dutch beers there’s also few interesting and hard to get. Certainly place to come again.

Friendly bar with a good selection of bottles, and often draft too, in a location you just wouldn’t expect it. After the flavourless lager driven debris of the rest of the street you wouldn’t be expecting a small friendly beer bar. Packed on a weekend, so appropriately loud, patience and skill will still get you a seat. The rest of the week generally quieter. Always got a wide selection of bottles, emphasis on Belgian and Dutch, bit more on the blonde - triple side than the dark and chewy. Some good tap beers but not as consistently interesting. The monthly beer tasting, is usually the third Monday of the month.

It calls itself an oasis of taste in the Leidseplein area, and they are right. Once you manage to plough your way through the ’hit every joint in town’ hipster crowd that makes Leidesplein one of the most horrible places in Amsterdam, you can settle down with a good beer or two there. They have a good selection for decent prices and the staff are friendly, like to engage in conversation about the stuff they sell and manage the place well. The staff are also mostly young people who come across a lot more open than the stuffy geezers at De Gollem or the post-graduate beer geeks at Wildeman. Apart from their staple beers they also have new stuff coming up regularly, beer tasting evenings, and the aforementioned cellar surprise sell-off offers. A bottle of Westvleteren 8 costs 10 EUR here, which is even cheaper than at De Bierkoning! Food is not really special, just some typical Dutch snacks to go along with drinks, but it’s decent stuff, particularly the cheese plate features cheese also made by breweries. A place to come back to.

Exceeded my expectations. This beer cafe (apparently the oldest in Amsterdam) has a well-stocked beer menu (Westvleteren, Orval), a nice rotation of tap beers and surprises in the cellar from monthly tastings. The service was very friendly and I managed to get 4 new tastings. So it was a success all around. Will definitely come back.

Small bar, an oasis in the Leidseplein area, as it’s usually not full with out of their head tourists. Nice beer selection, apart from the typical Belgian usuals the list gets completed by leftovers from monthly beer tastings, which is a truly interesting addition with the more obscure stuff. The place is related somehow with a sportclub, which gives a sometimes in crowd atmosphere. Monthly beer tastings, monthly film screening on an antique projector, monthly pop quiz etc. Snug place with lots of beer, although the staff might have to work on their knowledge on what they sell. By far the best you’ll find in this area.
