| Svesse (88), Hässelby, Sweden | | October 17, 2009 Nice bar just across the alley from De Gekraakte Ketel. Rather dark interior with a small space around the bar just inside the door and more seating halt a stair up. Rather dark and quite grotty interior. But nice and friendly place with efficient staff. Beer selection is mainly Belgian with some interesting stuff. Good selection of Belgian bottled beers. Tried a couple of Struise beers. Rather centrally located so a visit is definitely recommended. | | Tim Webb (40), Cambridge, England | | August 8, 2009 I cannot be that objective about the first place I ever drank Belgian beers a third of a century ago. This place is part of the historical foundations of the late 20th century’s beer revolution. It is also a drab and smoky old bar with a bit of a lazy beer list right now. | | Nordcore (11), North of, Norway | | July 12, 2009 A small bar right across the beer store Cracked Kettle. Good beer selection, dark and old interior. Used some of the time there too look at the beerbottles they had around there. | | MaxxDaddy (15), Hoboken, New Jersey | | June 4, 2009 A cozy tucked-in pub in the alley across from Cracked Kettle. Has a small bar in front with extra seating in back. This bar mostly focuses on Belgian beers, both on tap and in bottles. Lots of bottles, though not much on rarities. They had Black Albert in bottles, but for 9.50 euro each, it’s not worth your while. Fortunately, there’s plenty of other beers to choose from. Bartender was friendly and jovial, which is nice in a drab bar such as this one. A nice little place, though | | trapez (18), Hilleroed, Denmark | | May 30, 2009 Nice smsll brown Dutch pub. Around 300 different beers mainly Dutch or Belgian on bottle. Friendly and helpful staff. No brews from de Molen, and apparantly no knowledge about this excellent Dutch brewery. | | deyholla (14), Bloomington, Indiana | | May 21, 2009 A great place for belgians in Amsterdam. Staff is friendly and it is a nice ambiance. I wish they had a few more dutch beers, but it is a belgian bar. | | baggio (19), norrtälje, Sweden | | September 24, 2008 A small and very atmospheric bar on of the sidestreets of central amsterdam. Place is very small and might be able to host 25 customers at one time. Good selection of Belgiand and Dutch beer and even quite a few germans and others. Pleasant bartender who was more than willing to help us select something that suited our tastebuds. One of the best bars in amsterdam! | | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | August 19, 2008 A very small place, most of the time very packed, noisy and smoky. Hard to smell the beer beyond the cigarettes. Decent selection but it doesn’t really help because after 1 beer I got tired of having to put so much effort into smelling my beer. An OK place if you don’t mind all the stuff I mentioned, personally I wasn’t very fond of it. | | Borresteijn (52), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 10, 2008 Small and cozy bar, dark and a bit filthy appearance, just the way I like it. Nice tap selection (only 10, not 20), nice bottle selection too, bartender knows his stuff. Prices have gone up quite a bit lately, but still the best Belgian beer bar considering atmosphere in Amsterdam imo. | | LaMichael (599), Colorado | | June 4, 2008 Two-tiered bar setting, dark and comfortable and bit clubbish in feeling. Beer selection on draft is respectable, but overrun with Belgians instead of Dutch, but at least they were Belgians I hadn’t seen elsewhere in Belgium. No complaints about the crowd or staff, fairly benign visit on a rainy afternoon. Would visit again as a change of pace since you can’t exactly sit in ’t Arendsnest for 12 hours all day. |
