21 reviews for Grapevine Market
ttoadee (3), Texas does not count - explanation | | July 16, 2009 Prices are not always as good as Specs, but a better large bottle collection, particularly when it comes to Belgian. Beer is organized in a more compact manner than anywhere else, which means you can shop while just turning around. If you want to feel surrounded by beer this is the place ot go. | | Cavie (49), Fort Worth, Texas | | March 16, 2009 Heard about this place through reviews; thought I would check it out. Although they have a very large selection of wines and cheeses (Grapevine...duh) the beer selection was way above par. Directly to the left of the entrance was a double sided aisle of beers, turns the corner, and continues on the back side. Enormous selection of local brews as well as imports. They allow you to break up 6 packs and the service was quite knowledgeable about different styles. Left with 2 sixers and a bomber for about $30 - can’t complain. Great place to stop by if you’re in town. | | jumpjet2k (13), Austin, Texas | | February 17, 2009 [ Updated November 16, 2009 ] Grapevine was a fun place to buy beer. A year ago they got all the new beer releases just as quickly as any other beer stores in town, along with a fine selection of all the rest of the beers available in this town. Their food was always exceptional, and their wine and liquor selections probably unparalleled in Austin. However, in the past half a year or so the beer availability really went downhill - James, the beer guy, left a few months ago due to heavy-handed management by Majestic. And now the store is closing. It’s unfortunate, really, that they went under, because it was always a fun place to stop by. | | hopeye101 (11), Draughthouse, Texas | | February 13, 2009 The Best place to buy beer in Austin, no doubt. They always have the latest beers out in front of the beer department so you can look over what the new stock is and load up. But don’t, they usually have what you want in the fridge so get it out of the fridge.
GrapeVineJames usually posts the new stuff he gets in in the southwest forum. I’ve met him once -- he’s a great guy. They have pretty much every good beer that is available in Austin. Sometimes it pays to look at other stores for beers that get sold out. Other BA’s know about Grapevine market and the good stuff can go fast.
They also have an excellent deli department that you can get a great sandwich and eat it on premises.
The staff is helpful and friendly. They will usually ask you if you need help but won’t be in your face if you just want to browse. Go there and say hi to me -- I’ll probably be there.
| | Bockyhorsey (52), Mesa, Arizona | | July 5, 2008 Stopped here on our way out of town. The selection was good as we were looking for local TX beers and stuff we can’t get in AZ. We came here as the ratings stated we could get a lot in singles which we did. When we had questions, the staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely stop here again if we were ever back in Austin. They also had an area were you could get a sandwich and a glass of wine. We didn’t have time to eat but the food looked and smelled really good. | | slimchill (57), Austin, Texas | | June 2, 2008 [ Updated September 15, 2008 ] A great selection, particularly of singles. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. They also have a wonderful liquor selection. | | MrRomero (105), Nolanville, Texas | | March 13, 2008 Liquor store with a nice selection of beer. Not the largest but there are some solid out of state micros and a good selection of local Texas beers. Picked up some Fuller’s Vintage 2007 also. There’s definitely something here for everybody. | | pintsize (18), Austin, Texas | | March 6, 2008 This is by far the best beer store in Austin. It doesn’t have an amazing selection like some in other cities - but it is pretty damn good. Overall, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable (most moreso on wine). James (the beer guy here) is great. He knows what he is doing and is friendly and helpful regardless if you know anything about beer or not. Overall, Grapevine holds a special place in my heart. | | mmmbeer (23), Austin, Texas | | February 15, 2008 I’ll keep this review short and sweet- I have purchased roughly 80% of the brews that I have rated thus far on RB from this place. Can’t think of anything negative to say... one of my top 3 places to visit in Austin if you only had one night here. Enough said. | | BeerBelcher (130), Columbus, Ohio | | October 30, 2007 This is the best place to buy beer I’ve found during several visits to Austin. I would characterize it as a very nice wine store that happens to carry a decent selection of craft beer. They have quite a bit of beer, and three quarters of it or so is refrigerated. This store carries more 12oz single bottles than I’ve seen other places, although it seemed like a lot of the shelf space was empty or a lot of items were out of stock during my visit. Also, a lot of the local stuff that I’d seen in 6-packs at Central Market weren’t here...which was a shade disappointing.
The staff answered a question of mine regarding how long something had been sitting on a shelf well-enough, but they definitely seemed more interested in the wine clientele, even though there was no one really shopping the wine aisles at the time.
A pretty good place to shop for beer. |
