4 reviews for Bayport Superstar Beverage
| IauditUUhateme (12), Coram, New York | | October 8, 2008 BIG store! Sometimes clean, sometimes dirty. Lots & lots of macros as far as the eye can see. I stop by here often, as my job brings me around here quite a bit. This is not one of my favorite stores. It just doesn’t cut it as a great place to visit. The lighting is wierd, it’s often cold or damp or too hot! The floors are usually kind of grubby looking too. Enough of that. The selection here has gotten better since the new manager, Paul has taken over. Paul has brought in plenty of new stuff, and seems to be on top of the craft beer section. Paul is genuinely interested in beer, and if you catch him on the right day, he loves to talk about it. (I would have given a higher service rating, but if Paul is not there, no one seems to know anything about beer. Also, Paul runs hot and cold. One day he is charming & funny, the next, cranky & condesending) Paul will go out of his way to help, and will call other superstar stores, or his buddy Dave at Bellport to find you something he does not have in stock.
This is a good beer store, not great. The selection is good, the service is usually good, and you can always find something, so you will never waste a trip.
If you are driving by, stop in. If you are more than 20 minutes away, don’t waste the gas. | | beerbill (43), Laurel, New York | | May 10, 2008 I used to frequent this place more often before I discovered the better beer stores in Huntington and Bellport. This place is clearly a notch below those. Thankfully, they’ve recently repaved the parking lot, which used to look like something out of Iraq. The store itself is cavernous with a dirty concrete floor. The day I visited it was raining and there were several pails and buckets spread about to catch the various roof leaks. The lighting needs improvement as well. Most of the space in the store is dedicated to cases of common beers and soda. The craft beers are on new shelves located in the front of the store. The selction is decent, but again, below the stores in Huntington and Bellport. Unless you live in the area or are driving by it, this is not worth a special trip. | | notalush (158), Denver, Colorado | | May 9, 2008 I stop in here every few weeks or so, because I grew up around here, and still have friends in the area - the store is indeed gigantic (and cold, and damp, like they hollowed out an old auto shop and made it a beer store), but the section devoted to craft beer and imports isn’t really any larger than Big Z, Bellport, or the other Superstars - their selection is pretty much identical to the Superstar in Huntington, with one or two things missing - the staff is quite friendly, at least the one guy that always seems to be there when I visit is - he also knows his beer - there really isn’t anything I can say about this place that isn’t 100% true of the other superstar - Big Z and Bellport tend to get some of the harder to get beers, but the staff makes it worth coming to - in brief, if you live near it, or are in the area, check it out - if not, a visit isn’t really worthwhile for the hardcore beer hunter. | luvsthesuds (2), does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2008 This place is huge...i stopped in this place after visiting the blue point brewery, its onle 5 min down the road. When you walk in i was greeted by the guy behind the counter( which is always nice) and he pointed me in the direction of what i wanted. They have a large section of what seems to be the biggest retail floor i have ever seen in a beer distributor dedicated to micros and imnports. they also have tons of stuff cold which is a major plus. The manager, Paul was very helpful and deffintily knows his beer. I was lookign for dogfish head Black n blue n he had it and gave me a whole discription on it before purchasing. Overall a great place to visit, deffintily rivals huntington SUperstar as the best beer storre on L.I. - Onlyprobelm is that they dont have their growler system up and runnig yet but its comin soon. Plus they will ship beer to other stores if you do not live around them...CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!! |
