June 29, 2009 One of the Norwegian state’s "Wine Monopoly" stores (government regulated shops with exclusive license to sell alcohol above 4,75 %, which is the limit for ordinary shops). They are called "Vinmonopolet" in Norwegian, and everything from location to opening hours is under strict political supervision. One of the truly rare political features of Scandinavia, and unfortunately also a real hamper on Norway’s general access to worldwide quality selections of beverages, although they do try to keep a fairly high standard in many cases. Unfortunately, prices (in Norway in general) are of equally "high standard".
This particular store in Bergen carries the largest selection of beer and ales in the city, which says more about the general availability than about the place itself. |
