| blutt59 (51), Dallas, Texas | | November 18, 2009 small storefront on University with back wall of coolers and two shelves of beer, pretty disorganized and rummaged through but quite a few nice finds, close to the freeway | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | November 15, 2009 Big, dusty bottle shop with (as in the picture) huge shelves of wine and liquor bottles lining the entire area behind the registers. Huge selection of West Coast stuff (Lost Abbey, Cascade, some Alesmith, etc.) some Jolly Pumpkins, and a nice selection of Belgian / international beers (Cantillon, Struise, etc.). Highlights included the last bottle of Cascade Sang Royal (they also had bottles of the Kriek and Apricot), Cantillon Cuvee de Champions, Drakes 1500 Pale Ale (never seen it before), and bottles of the SN / DFH Life and Limb. Pricier than even BevMo!, I held off on buying certain things I knew I could find elsewhere. | | JohnC (99), Mission Viejo, California | | July 10, 2009 I visited here during RBSG09.
What a nice place with a great selection, friendly people and fine service Ledger’s is. I would definitely recommend it and will go back when in the area. | | ajm (161), Los Angeles, California | | June 23, 2009 Nice place. I love when liquor stores have their own dedicated parking lots. Lots of shelves, especially for liquor. I get the feeling that spirits are the star here. Felt a little understocked on NorCal items (Lag, Moylans, missing a Drakes or two, Bear Republic, etc.). But they sure did have 3/4 Russian River Barrel Aged series just laying around like paperweights. | | Gypsy19 (11), California | | June 15, 2009 [ Updated June 20, 2009 ] Basically your old corner liquor store, but with a nice selection of Belgian and American craft beers. Makes me imagine that it used to an antique or small furniture store. Ed was a nice guy and helped me try to find a couple that I was looking for. The beer section can be kind of disorganized, but you won’t mind sorting through it all if you have 45 minutes or an hour to burn. If you don’t have that kind of time, then it could get a little frustrating, although I suppose that there can be worse instances of frustration than being literally surrounded in a confusing labyrinth of beers. There were like 11 or 12 Lost Abbey beers on the shelves when I was there. If I had the cash I probably would’ve picked up one of each. There were also a couple of Alesmith and Mikkeller selections. | | joeneugs (18), Livermore, California | | May 9, 2009 This is a kind of run down looking place in a good spot right off University Ave in Berkeley. I’m glad I stopped in here on a whim after having lunch at triple rock. Very good brew selection. Two entire isles with three tiered shelf space for craft beer. They seem to specialize on rare German and Belgian beers, as I saw things here I haven’t seen anywhere else in the Bay area. They were surprisingly lacking on some of the very top tier stuff though. I was happy anyway, I walked out with a couple of bottles of Brewdog, and a rare Belgian that I can’t pronounce. Service was courteous if not very helpful. | | SamGamgee (83), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California | | April 14, 2009 Great selection overall, but a bit disorganized and random. Definite bonus that you can buy singles of anything but the prices are much higher than they should be compared to the normal six pack prices. The guy working there was nice and helpful, though not overly conversational. I’ll be back, but probably only to find stuff that I can’t get after hitting other bay area spots with better prices. | | brianprentiss (29), Portland, Oregon | | October 16, 2008 This is a really good place to find beer that you can’t find many other places in Northern California. They have a connection with a number of San Diego brewers that don’t distribute up here (Lost Abby, Port).
The shop is not all that aesthetically pleasing there are a lot of boxes and random stuff lying around, but the staff is nice and you can buy a single of every beer in the store. I highly recommend a visit. | | Phil (18), , England | | October 13, 2008 This is the place that I head to, everytime that I am in Berkeley. This is an east bay institution - one of a kind, and the place to get all the beers that you want when you hit the SF area. | | Aquilo (14), California | | October 6, 2008 This might be the best place in Berkeley to get beer. I know, that’s not saying much. But they do have a decent selection of bottles, and while you are here, you can pick up some hard liquor as well. Otherwise, there are adequate places closer to where I live and work. |
