10 reviews for Blacklick Wine and Spirits & Hombrewing Supplies
| Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | August 28, 2009 (Visited 08/2008): Blacklick Wine & Spirits is on the east side of Columbus a few miles east of I-270 on Broad Street. There is a decent-sized private lot out front that is shared with some other places in the strip mall.
The interior is open and laid out well. Wine and spirits are near the entryway, with beer being in the left and rear of the store, most of it in coolers. There is a long counter along the right side of the store that almost looks like a bar.
The beer selection is very good. Lots to choose from representing the Ohio and Michigan regions, from GLBC, Bell’s and Founders to goodies from further away like Avery, Rogue, Stone etc. Decent selection of imports from Belgium and the UK especially.
Service here is very good, and these people clearly care about the beers. Our first visit was during a "Dogfish Head and Cheese" tasting and it was great. They really went out of their way to get someone from DFH who could speak with authority on their beers and what complemented the flavors. BW&S does tastings very frequently judging from their mailing list.
Overall this place might be a haul for people not living on that end of the city but this place is definitely worth a trip. | | fromred2green (15), , Ohio | | July 10, 2009 Not a bad little store. In addition to having a good wine and liquor selection, this place has one of the best selections of beer on the East side of Columbus. Nice selection of regionals and local beers as well. Probably 30-40 or so singles to choose from also, so if that’s what you’re into, it might be worth a trip. Prices are better than I’ve seen other places for the same beer in most cases. | | BeerBelcher (130), Columbus, Ohio | | February 15, 2009 "Yeah, I’ll take a 6 of Ruination and a 4 of Double-Trouble to go?!" This place is the first craft-beer place I’ve seen with a drive thru. This is probably the best beer store I’ve yet found in Columbus, although my exploration is so far limited to this spot, From the Vine, and a few area grocery stores.
This is a state-owned l;iquor store, but has a decent amount of cooler and warm space devoted to beer. As you enter, there’s a small cooler of imports, as you go deeper in the store there’s a long beer cooler along your left, and there’s warm storage of bombers and 12oz singles to your right and front. You can mix and match a 6-pack from a small selection on a shelf. Prices are a tad high, but pretty typical for a specialty shop.
The help here is pretty transparent. They all seem young, and the place is usually busy enough they seem to be occupied with just keeping the registers and drive-through running.
I’m not exactly blown away by this store, but as I said, it is the best I’v | | brentfeesh (60), Gadsden, Alabama | | December 29, 2008 This store has apparently gone through an expansion. I was told it used to be a straight liquor store but it is far better than that now. A fine beer selection with plenty of everything. Plenty of alcohol to suit your needs both high and low end. And the wine selection looks decent as well. I get up that way about once a year and I will certainly make it a regular stop. | | JaBier (14), Capital City, Ohio | | October 11, 2008 I just moved to this end of town, but I’ve been working up here for years and had no idea this place existed until a few months ago. This place is awesome! Wide selection of micros, macros and imports. Pretty decent selection of singles that rotates frequently. I’m not a huge fan of wine and liquor, but they seem to have a good selection of these as well. Joe is the resident beer guru and he hosts weekly beer tastings. I believe they also do weekly wine tastings. Get on their e-mail lists to receive weekly updates about the tastings. And if you don’t see the beer you’re looking for, mention it to Joe and he will do his best to order it in. Maybe living on the east side won’t be so bad. | Moggman (5), Columbus, Ohio does not count - explanation | | October 10, 2008 Smaller store, with very knowledgeable staff. Beer and Wine tastings weekly, selling singles. Good selection of craft brews both domestic and imported. | | DragonStout (73), Pataskala, Ohio | | August 1, 2008 I love the feel of this store.Small and quaint.A small selection, but above average selection. You can buy singles here, sixers and they both come cold.Great little shop.Thank you Dawn for showing me this place. | burntcarpet (1), Pataskala, Ohio does not count - explanation | | December 26, 2007 This place is fast becoming East Columbus’ place to shop for beer! Beer tastings weekly, special events and over 400 different kinds of beer to choose from. They also offer over 100 different micro brew styles in 5 gallon kegs and now are selling single 12oz. bottles. Well worth stopping by! | | johnadam2002 (10), Hainesport, New Jersey | | November 26, 2007 I stopped in just to hit another beer store in the area. Nice selection of Alesmith, Great Lakes, Bells, Founders, and Hoppin Frog. Has some east coast stuff as well like Southern Tier and Dogfish Head. I walked out with a Hoppin Frog Wheat and soemthing else thats escaping my mind right now. I was really tempted to buy the 3L of Double Bastard since Jersey will see very limited if any. | | BeerVirgin72 (75), Pataskala, Ohio | | April 24, 2007 [ Updated August 1, 2008 ] Updated: 8/1/08...I just wanted to update here, since I was the original person who entered this store. They ahve expanded their craft beer selection in the last year. A whole wall of coolers house six packs, and they ahve two coolers dedicated to singles. They now offer quite a few shelves of singles as well. They host beer tastings and bring in guests as well. VERY NICE place for the East side of Columbus. Great wine selection and they sell liquor too. How can you go wrong??? |
