February 7, 2009 [ Updated October 4, 2009 ] Primarily a cider pub situated in the Spike Island part of Bristol docks, a short walk from the SS Great Britain and well placed for those going to watch Bristol City play. Has recently increased the variety on offer by adding polypins of cider - there were around 12 of these from producers such as Hecks, Richs, Wilkins, Burrow Hill, Orchards, Crossman and Bristol Ciderworks, and rarities like Ashill and Parsons Choice, all at £2.50 a pint. Also had 4 Thatchers’ ciders on handpump, along with 4 ales (from Bath, Wickwar, Blindmans and Sharps). Meals at lunchtime and snacks throughout the day. Well worth seeking out. Current CAMRA UK cider pub of the year. |
