TheDoctor (4), Calgary, Alberta does not count - explanation | | November 18, 2009 Not as much of a selection as Willow Park but as mentioned probably has fewer Canadian and more import options, but Willow Park overall is much better. However, this is MUCH more conveniently located for those in urban Calgary, and does have a good selection. Unfortunate layout. Service is good. | jimmay (7), Waterloo, Ontario does not count - explanation | | January 16, 2009 Visited early January, early evening. Only one staffer, who admittedly didn’t know much about beer. Beer selection is varied - local Alberta selection is poor. Surprisingly, a pretty good selection of Belgians and Euros. Doesn’t compare at all to Willow Park. | | Powertrip (11), Calgary, Alberta | | October 9, 2008 My favorite place to go for wine, beer and especially scotch tastings. Smallish place that is packed with hard finds and a great variety. Staff is very knowledgable as well. Recommended. | | mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | August 10, 2008 Visited before closing on a Friday evening in November 2007. Packed with alcohol paraphernalia, good selection of local bottles and imports, some glassware. Service was ok, nothing special. Interesting wine selection too. Overall, a good source. | patricks110 (8), Alberta does not count - explanation | | July 23, 2008 [ Updated August 18, 2008 ] A great place to buy some imports and micros in calgary. A bit pricey because of the upscale location and probably because it is a wine market. Beers are set up in wooden crates some of which have ratebeer.com ratings on the crates to point out which ones are the best beers. The staff is extremely helpful and helped me find everything i wanted. Overall, a great store, but a little bit pricey. | | Maltybones (12), Calgary, Alberta | | July 5, 2008 A great little shop. The appearance is a little dodgy, as most of the beers are kept in wooden crates. That’s not necessarily bad, except when you have to start moving them around to find the beers you want in the lower crates. Throughput is high enough that getting light-struck beers is not a probelm, in my experience. While they don’t do the volume that Willow Park does, the number of imports available is a little better, while Canadian brews are a little worse. The staff was extremely freindly, helpfull and knoweldgeable. Comes in slightly ahead of Willow Park for my first stop in Calgary (the imports seal the deal for me). | | TimE (130), Tokyo, Japan | | December 23, 2007 Near my parent’s house, so this is my local when I am in town. Nice place. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Admittingly its not as good as Willow Park, but if you are in the NW or downtown section of the city, this is the place to go. Good balance of imports and micros. Could have more refrigeration, but I haven’t found the beers there in particularly bad condition. | | jerc (141), Toronto, Ontario | | November 8, 2007 Pretty good selection of imports, but their selection of Alberta brews is a bit lacking. Staff was polite but a bit standoffish. Picked up some Fish Tale, Lagunitas, and Alley Kat amongst other misc. | | goatboy (16), Alberta | | October 12, 2007 [ Updated July 16, 2009 ] I think this is one of the best places to buy beer, especially if you’re looking for unique hard to find Imports & Micro Brew’s. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable & helpfull . Kensington has a small fridge that holds around 70 beers & im told they have over 300 different brands of beer on thier main floor. Also they have a great web site with descriptions and pictures of all thier product & they have tasting classes that seat up to 20 people.
All the beer is rotated as it comes in to the store to ensure no stale dated product & the lighting in the store is directed away from the beer to reduce issues with light struck beer. Kensington Wine Market is a funky, small store with lots of character. I would recommend Kensington Wine Market as a great place to find unique quality beer in Calgary. | | DuffMan (96), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta | | February 20, 2007 Not nearly the selection offered by Willow Park, although it is the exclusive supplier of Lagunitas products in the city. Furthermore, the beer display is terrible! There is one small cooler, then the rest of the beer is stacked in palates and cardboard boxes in the middle of the floor! If you had only enough time for one stop in Calgary to buy beer, go to Willow Park. |
