13 reviews for Willow Park Wines and Spirits
TheDoctor (4), Calgary, Alberta does not count - explanation | | November 18, 2009 I’m rating the selection based on what is in Alberta. For that, there is no better alternative, other than this one place in Edmonton, but they seemed not to have as extensive a selection (when I visited anyway). Great service here, very knowledgeable staff (as mentioned, don’t approach shelf-stockers for advice, really...), reasonable value. | patricks110 (8), Alberta does not count - explanation | | September 3, 2009 I have only been here a few times. This place has almost everything (a few exceptions). Their service is awesome and the employees are highly intelligent about the products. A bit overpriced. | Savvy1982 (4), Lethbridge, Alberta does not count - explanation | | July 29, 2009 These folks seem to carry everything, if it’s available in Alberta, these folks probably have it. Service is highly dependent upon who you get, the average shelf-stockers generally aren’t terribly helpful, but if you get Big Dave or one of his beer-specific staff, they tend to know their stuff alright. Overall quite good, and they carry enough stock that some of the rare seasonal stuff that is sold out everywhere else can generally still be found there. | | goatboy (16), Alberta | | January 29, 2009 [ Updated February 10, 2009 ] Big store, they have a great selection of north American brews but their selection of European beer needs some work. the store is very clean and the staff are helpfull. | jimmay (7), Waterloo, Ontario does not count - explanation | | November 30, 2008 Was pretty impressed with this place. Service was awesome. The guy that helped me was very knowledgeable and helped me find non LCBO offerings! Pretty good selection of both ’Western Canadian’ and imports, would be nice to be able to buy singles. Best service I’ve ever had buying beer! They even packaged my beeer purchases to take home on the plane! | | Powertrip (11), Calgary, Alberta | | October 9, 2008 Competes with Kensington Wine Market as the best Spirit store in Calgary. Prices reflect on both however. Ambience is professional, while service (except for a couple of slobby shelf stockers) is pretty much spot-on. Biggest selection in the city, although not always the best choice for the hardest of hard-to-finds. | | Maltybones (12), Calgary, Alberta | | July 5, 2008 An excellent store. Huge selection of beers and the best selection of Canadian beers in the city. Imports are plentiful, but not as many as Kensington Wine Market. Staff is very freindly and very, very knowledgeable, but lord help you if you need to track one of them down on a Saturday......hard to do (very busy) and there will be a que of the aged ahead of you wanting to know if Kokanee is a good beer. Overall a worthwhile stop. | naoss (3), Calgary, Alberta does not count - explanation | | January 11, 2007 Best beer selection in the city. Very knowledgable staff that are readily available. They often have beer, wine, scotch sampling nights. | | TimE (130), Tokyo, Japan | | December 22, 2006 Its the place to go in Calgary (though Kensington is almost as good, but a bit more pricey). Not much more to say, except it doesn’t compare with great store in the US, but for Canada it is definetely top of the pile. Definetely the best in Western Canada. Simply put, if you can’t find it here, it is not avialable in Alberta.
| | DuffMan (96), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta | | October 13, 2006 A terrific store all around, whether you are after beer, wine, or spirits. Service is generally excellent, but to really get the best service when it comes to discussing/enquiring about beer, you need to talk to Dave. He is knowledgable, approachable, and knows his stuff! He is also good at networking into the marketplace to bring new products into Alberta. The Willow Park "standard" beer selection is very good, offering lots of local microbrews in addition to the more mainstream macro stuff. The import section is decent, and most importantly is always growing. They carry the broadest range of FishTail product and Rogue product that I have seen in Alberta. Their Belgian selection is decent enough, but the rest of Europe is thinly represented. Always a pleasure to saunter through and see what’s new! |
