92 reviews for Pizza Port - Carlsbad
| WeeHeavySD (102), San Diego (Hillcrest), California | | November 24, 2009 How I haven’t rated this place is hard to believe. The best of the three Pizza Ports in Size, Splendor and the greatest variety of beer. Can’t really say much bad about this one. | | SamGamgee (86), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California | | November 19, 2009 Simply one of the best brewpubs that I have been to. Awesome surf-town atmosphere (I’m from Santa Cruz, so it feels like home with better beer), and the beer selection is second maybe only to Russian River for a brewpub. When it gets crowded on a weekend night, you could imagine being at Oktoberfest if Oktoberfest was a Southern-Californian festival. Ponder that one. They also have lots of killer guest taps from other awesome SD area breweries and beyond. The pizza is pretty damn good, but the menu is somewhat limited beyond that. Throw in the bottle shop next door, (which is apparently a separate place to rate) and you definitely have a must-stop in the north county. I seriously might move to Carlsbad to be able to ride my bike here. | | Derek881 (25), Frederick, Maryland | | August 4, 2009 I stopped in here for pizza and beer on my visit to San Diego. The restaurant was very busy, the ordering system was slightly flawed, and the long tables with benches did not provide the best ambiance around. The service was not spectacular either, it was more of a do-it-yourself type of place. The beer selection was great though, and they brew a lot of their own, quality beers. The food was also good, and filling, and the prices were reasonable, but not cheap. It was a good place for pizza and beer, but by no means formal and not a bar. | | steview (15), Los Angeles, California | | July 17, 2009 I’ve been here plenty of times, when I lived in Oceanside. The beer selection is always at the very least decent even if you’re a beer geek. The food is alright. I’m from Chicago, so the pizza here isn’t great. The value is decent. But the big overall is that it’s good here because the selection always has something satisfying on tap, the food always fills you up and that can be done for less than $10, and the location is supreme - halfway between L.A. and Mexico. | | elihapa (62), Honolulu, California | | July 12, 2009 This was my first trip to a Pizza Port, and I am blown away. It is near perfection for a beer lover: great food, a casual atmosphere, and a phenomenal beer tap list! Located conveniently in downtown Carlsbad, this place invites you in with ample parking and a wide open, breezy entrance. The atmosphere is typically lively and friendly, emphasized by the family-style long tables in the heart of the dining room. I ordered a lunch special and paid a buck extra (5.99 total) for my first pint of Pizza Port brew, Jetty IPA. Overall, I was near tears at the quality of Pizza Port brews, and the food is nothing to scoff at. I am now desperate to try the other two locations, as well as get back to this one. | | Ungstrup (245), Frederiksberg, Denmark | | July 6, 2009 A great place. Huge indoor room with a high cealing, surfer pictures on the wall, brewery in steel right at the entrance and huge pizza baking kitchen at the back wall, also a medium sized outdoor seating area, but inspite of the size it is crowded around dinner time. The music is quite loud. All sorts of people come here from the surfers to the families. The service is friendly, but you don’t alwats get what you want neither from the kitchen nor the bar. The pizza is really good. Had 8 new beers of their own the first around, and 6 a year later, plus 1 or 2 guest beers. A must visit - and a place to go back. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | July 1, 2009 It is very hard to pick a favourite between Carlsbad and Solana Beach. Carlsbad is the larger spot with high ceilings, a surfers cafeteria with an awesome beer list, one of the great California brewers and the most impressive guest tap list when we visited, they must have had 20 guest beers and not common beers at that (stuff like ballast point brandy barley wine). The pizza is stunning, the atmosphere is light, it must feel like vacations any time, especially with the picnic tables and tons of natural light. | | Taverner (77), San Ramon, California | | April 10, 2009 Heaven for the beer-o-phile! Good pizza, good beers, good guest taps and great atmosphere. | | Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | March 3, 2009 (Visited 07/2008): Pizza Port Carlsbad is located right off the I-5 in Carlsbad. Street parking seems to be the best option, since there is only a small private lot behind the building.
The interior has lots of wood, and hanging surfboards and tap handles are the main motif. Picnic benches dominate most of the space, with the bar located along the left side.
The beer list is pretty impressive. There are around 8 Pizza Port beers and 12 guest taps from the likes of Russian River, Green Flash and others. There is a sampler available of just about everything.
Service was good on a busy weekday evening (I imagine they all are). The bartender was helpful with descriptions and samples.
We did not try any food on this visit.
Overall I have been nothing but impressed with the 2 Pizza Port locations and would highly recommend one or all of them as places to stop on a trip to San Diego. | | nbutler11 (69), Phoenix, Arizona | | February 6, 2009 Odd atmosphere. It’s like a Chuckie Cheese for adults. Extensive tap list and great pizzas, make the vibe tolerbale. Plus, its next to their amazing bottle shop and just a couple blocks from the ocean. |
