7 reviews for Benz Beverage Depot
iamqueensblvd (3), , Iowa does not count - explanation | | July 4, 2009 Great selection, claims to have over 500 beers. Individual bottles as well as packages. Great hard to find items here as well. | hike20 (4), Iowa does not count - explanation | | June 26, 2009 Pretty good selection for Iowa, which unfortunately is not saying a whole lot. Definitely a lot of more common beers, but there are some rarer ones too. They have some pretty food specialty foods, and I especially like the breads they offer. Good selection of Belgian, German, and English beers. Not as many domestic micros. | bds (2), Iowa does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2009 Benz’s is a slightly higher end liquor store located downtown. Since the flood last year, they have remodeled and now offer a larger selection of food (meats, cheeses, breads, etc.) but seem to have the same selection of beer and liquor. The staff here has always been kind and helpful to me but I have heard stories from people who have had some unpleasant experiences. When it comes to the liquor, they have have a pretty large selection although the prices tend to be a little high. Their beer selection is pretty good, but lately I seem to be able to find just as good of a selection of imported beer at the Hyvee liquor store. They have a large selection of wine, but since I’m not a wine drinker I can’t really comment on the price of selection (I just know they have a lot of bottles). They bottle their own liquors here (vodka, and gin, I believe) which go for about $20+ for a fifth of the vodka. I have yet to try any of it so I can’t comment on the taste. | | KAF (68), Coralville, Iowa | | December 22, 2007 I was not overly impressed with this store. Their brews were not well organized and their selections was not overly large and there was not a lot of variety. The lady at the register acted as if she had never heard of a sour beer before which was not a good sign. She was the only one seen working. If you are in this area you may as well drive another 25 minutes south and go to John’s Grocery in Iowa City. | | pepsican (26), The Student Ghetto, Iowa | | October 25, 2007 I come here often and the staff is great. Store is set up really nice and is clean. They have a large selection of beers, but are lacking in a lot of the imperial ipas, stouts, and other extreme beers (from talking to the staff this is more of a distribution/iowa problem). They do have a huge belgian selection if thats your thing. I rarely see beers I haven’t tried before. They hold tastings every so often and those are fun. The staff knows a lot about beer. | Sir+Drinksalot (1), Iowa does not count - explanation | | March 13, 2007 This store does carry a lot of Belgium and hard to find ales. They also have good prices on items like Three Floyds Alpha King Pale Ale at about $7.79 a 6pk. Best deal around. They also carry quite a few seasonal beers as well. Thanks for reading. | | heemer77 (171), Savannah, Missouri | | September 13, 2006 This is in the middle of the city with not much else around it in the way of customer service businesses. They have a large well lit facility with lots of wine on the way back to the beers. The selection of US singles was fairly weak. Yet, they claim more than 500 beers on their website. Where they shine is with Belgian and German imports. They also have a decent selection of west coast brews in 4 and 6 packs. I saw at least see 20 beers you cannot get in Iowa City. A store that is worth the visit if you want good beer in Cedar Rapids. |
