| phaleslu (86), Cincinnati, Ohio | | August 16, 2009 Not huge, but the selection is absolutely outstanding and the proprietors know their stuff. This is the place that I was going to when I first got seriously into beer. Some prices seem more fair than others, but nothing is priced unfairly. They make great use of the somewhat small space, with an overwhelming amount of stuff you won’t find elsewhere in Chciago. They’ve always got new stuff coming in, and I could spend a dangerous amount of money here on any given trip. | | mattmc1973 (10), Sterling Heights, Michigan | | July 12, 2009 Great place, tremendous selection and they know their beer in there. Always have great conversations with their employees, they are very knowledgeable. A bit pricey, but stuff you just can’t get anywhere else. I’ll keep coming back! | | nbutler11 (69), Phoenix, Arizona | | May 30, 2009 The best beer store I’ve been to thus far. Really incredible selection that is both focused and far reaching. The whole Baird line? Seriously? The part that really gets you, though, is how unsuspecting this place looks like from the outside and how small it is inside. When they told me they shipped I almost wet myself. | | marchcow (36), Coralville, Iowa | | May 18, 2009 Stopped in on a Friday night. There was an Ommegang beer tasting going on and I had a couple of samples. Good selection of all kinds of beers. Not too large, but a nice corner store with very good beer store ambiance. Staff was very helpful and talkative as were the other customers. Walked away with a good score of beers I have not tried yet. Definitely recommended. | | ajm (161), Los Angeles, California | | May 13, 2009 [ Updated May 31, 2009 ] I am a fool for not having this rated already. Went for the first time Nov. 2008. They were sporting Hommage, 50N4E, Cuvee des Champions, the expected Bells, a few Founders, and were rolling deep on 3F - Klaus, Gorschfock Helles, etc. The place hits you like a wrecking ball because it is small to begin with and half wine - and then the quality blows your mind. It’s like Belmont Station only even more concentrated. Really absurd. | | JPDIPSO (27), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin | | May 10, 2009 Cozy corner store. Asked if I needed help, I said "I’m ok" and was left to browse. Selection is not vast, but a great deal of odd and a handful of rare brews I doubt I would find anywhere I usually go. The best way for me to describe it is: I can go into Sam’s(Marcy) or Binny’s(Niles) (which I get to every two to three months) and find 5 to 10 "new" brews. There were well over 30 brews that I have neither had nor seen before at this store. I found the prices to be comparable and perhaps slightly less than the other "local" stores I frequent. Drove around the block a couple times prior to realizing that the lot behind was not private, and for the store. A definite addition to my must go to spots, at least when I am in the area. | | MeisterBrew (14), Cheyenne, Wyoming | | April 24, 2009 Online order. Easy to navigate website... I really liked the setup. Fairly good selection. It was nice finding an online retailer that carries Founders. My only gripe is that it took 5 days to get my order shipped. Not a deal breaker, but i wished it was sent quicker. | Monoplex (2), , does not count - explanation | | April 17, 2009 While they had beers not easily found elsewhere, I personally found the available the shelf space for beers to be somewhat disappointing. The total selection would likely fill 25% of an aisle at a traditional liquor store (I’m counting an aisle as being the shelves on both your left and right).
Easy to talk to and eager to assist people staff the store which is kept clean, brightly lit, and well organized. Prices are as you would expect in the middle of a nicer neighborhood in an urban area.
If you want the unique brands they carry, it can be worth fighting the omnipresent traffic. | | downender (116), Bristol, England | | March 21, 2009 Visited 4 March 2009. A god send for Chicago in that it was the only place I visited that offered single 355ml bottles for sale. Interesting offerings of Founders and Bells, although the Three Floyds’ offerings were low in anticipation of a delivery. Staff were friendly too. Only a short walk from Addison Brown. | roguemonk (1), Orland Park, Illinois does not count - explanation | | March 14, 2009 [ Updated March 19, 2009 ] Greatest place in the Midwest by far...The competition likes numbers. WLV has a choice selection and the list shows a passion for beer...I always find hidden gems here. Kristina also alerts me to the really rare items. She is the best. |
