5 reviews for The Liquor Box (OUT OF BUSINESS)
| heemer77 (171), Savannah, Missouri | | April 3, 2008 The best name ever. Decent selection and I was able to grab a couple of new Dark Horse and other random beers. Lacks singles, but I get that as I assume they expect that real craft won’t fly out the door. Relatively small selection, but they seem to be concentrating on quality, nothing wrong with that. I love their tiny walk in cooler, I had to duck to get in. It’s a step in the right direction. | | Illini08 (34), Raleigh, North Carolina | | January 26, 2008 Been here a number of times. Good selection of Dark Horse, Arcadia, Goose Island, some DFH, Left Hand, 3F on occasion, SN, Great Divide, decent selection of imports. Can’t split up six-packs which is always a bummer. Still, this is the best place to go for beer in the QC. | | barleyPops (58), Quad-Cities, Illinois | | January 16, 2008 as previously stated, the selection here has been nothing special, but is getting better. recently they added some of the Dark Horse brews i.e. One & Too and Arcadia Hop Rocket, but never seem to carry anyones full line-up. Great Divide Yeti always seems to be on the shelf, but I’ve never seen Hercules. In the past, Gumballhead has been available, but that is the only bomber from 3F. selection is hit & miss, but its the best the Illinois QC has to offer. | | igneous1 (26), Davenport, Iowa | | November 11, 2007 [ Updated February 27, 2009 ] JPM30 is right. No need to make a special trip to this place. However, I’ve been to this store 3 times now and they’re really improving their selection. This is certainly the best place in the QCA now. I picked up a few Moylans beers and a Sierra Nevada Harvest Fresh Hop Ale. They’ve got a very small selection of Belgians. I do remember seeing one Cantillon there. If you’ve got the time though, John’s Market in Iowa City is much better.
EDIT: This place has made quite the transformation and is easily the best beer shopping locale in the QCA. Not fantastic, but significant improvement.
UPDATE: Stopped in today. Place is closing in 3 weeks and are currently have a going out of business sale. | | jpm30 (57), East Central, Georgia | | May 15, 2007 I guess there was hope that this place would fill the void left by Gendler’s, but sadly no. Small selection of micros, Avery, Boulder, Berghoff, Breckenridge, Goose Island, Schell, Sierra Nevada, Three Floyds(a few annuals, no bombers), Tommyknocker and a couple of others. Small import selection, HyVee has more, pretty much the imports you see everywhere in the QC. The two times I’ve been here I didn’t meet anyone who had any beer knowledge. If you’re close by, go ahead and stop, but otherwise, no need to make a special trip here. |
