| MikeF (95), Cleveland, Ohio | | August 31, 2009 [ Updated October 16, 2009 ] Very large Beer store with tons of varieties to choose from. VERY good prices. good staff. small wine selection and large glassware selection. the place to buy beer in Ghent. not that far of a walk from the downtown area. | | Bloekie (10), , Belgium | | August 8, 2009 It’s basically a big warehouse, which isn’t all that helpful for the ambiance. The service is top notch. The selection is absolutely astonishing. It’s got great value as well. Top beer store, imho. | alassio (3), does not count - explanation | | July 11, 2009 After visiting the Brussels beer shops this was heaven on earth. Lots of Black Albert 2.50e, Pannepot Gran Reserva 2.80e. Most everything else in .375L bottles well under 2e. Easily reached by Tram #4 from the train station (Gent St.Pieters) with a stop across the canal by the long blue footbridge. Phenomenal glassware selection at near half the cost of the Brussels shops. Very warm and helpful check-out person was the only other person I saw! Perfect finish to a beautiful daytrip to Gent is stocking up here, taking the tram to the station, and having a tap or two at the Castel before heading out. | | Bontus (13), Waasmunster, Belgium | | October 31, 2008 [ Updated November 20, 2008 ] Very nice hidden location even though I cross it everyday on my bike on my way to school. Selection is awesome, very rare beers, some nice reserva’s, premade basket’s, glasses, wine, homebrewer tools, ... Service was good, I ordered two crates of stille nacht and about a month later they called me on my cellphone to come pick them up.
Prices are good for the selection they offer, Black Albert €2,5 for one bottle a bit expensive but I don’t mind for it’s a lot better than most wines which costs always more.
Will go there again!
| | Jerre (50), Waregem, Belgium | | February 20, 2008 Yesterday it was years ago i was here.
WOW. Very good choice. Meany beers hard to find.
GOOD. | | Fin (95), Merton, England | | December 10, 2007 A reasonable sized beer warehouse, for those English raters out there who’ve been to Beers of Europe this is probably a similar size but narrower. Good selection, I picked up a few rarities 3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek for 10 Euros a 750ml bottle seemed reasonable value to me, plus a number of the t Smisje beers that seem quite difficult to get at about 1.84 Euro’s for 33cl bottles. Quite well laid out, very friendly and helpful staff, good choice and prices on Blegian glassware. | | SHIG (79), Aviano, Italy | | October 15, 2007 Another thanks to GPS finders. This store is tucked back in a alley of a one way street, but well worth the find. As one of the few places in Europe open on a Sunday I was pleased when the doors opened promply at 10. The staff greeted me with a smile and was very helpful when asked questions. They carried many brews typical to this region of Belgium, plus some imports. I was able to stock up on a few beers I knew I hadn’t tried, wished I had brought my list so I could have cleared more untasted. The glass wear is also amazing as I haven’t seen so many at a reasonable price. I will try and stop next time I am in the area for sure! | TheQuaffer (1), Epsom, England does not count - explanation | | October 8, 2007 A trip to Ghent isn’t complete without visiting The Hopduvel. There are a few German beers here, but apart from that it’s Belgium beers all the way. A very comprehensive selection, though I’ve yet to fathom out the order in which the beers are laid out. All the beers are available both individually & by the crate. You can return your empties & crates for a credit on your next purchase. It’s very much a warehouse rather than a beer shop with pretty displays. | | Grovlam (46), Copenhagen, Denmark | | May 28, 2007 Hard to find place with a good selection. Friendly service. You really have to look to finde the beers that you want from this place. All in all I thought this was pretty good. | | Stew41 (71), Caulfield, Australia | | April 21, 2007 Off Gent’s beaten track but well worth the effort. The shop is really more of a small warehouse who’s primary aim is to service local bars and restaurants. Pricing is awesome, perhaps the best in the country, as is the range. I had no problem with the display and layout, particulary when you can pay e.1.20 for a Rochefort 10 (ie 1/3rd the price in Australia). Very good range of glasses as well, again priced very well. To be honest this shop is better suited for a traveller with a car who in turn doesn’t have to worry about getting beer onto a plane. Given flight luggage restrictions perhaps it’s better keeping your powder dry for the likes of Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen. Definately worth a visit for the glasses however. |
