June 18, 2005 Kelsick Gardens is primarily a gourmet shop with a nice wine selection. Someone there, however, has taken the time to put in a small beer selection. Although not large, the selection is very well thought out, covering a wide variety of styles from some interesting brewers, particularly US micros. I spun by hoping to find Stone Vertical Epic ’05, which had long since sold out in Richmond. Sure enough, they had it, along with Allagash Curieux and some other nice beers (Unibroue Ephemere, black currant version, which I had never seen in Richmond, etc.). Perhaps not a selection worth going out of the way for, but definitely an oasis in the beer wastelands of Eastern Virginia. |
