miarf (2), , Finland does not count - explanation | | March 14, 2009 An atmospheric place of the smaller type. Warm lighting and lots of earthly tones present. Service is friendly and professional. The selection is surprisingly good, especially trappist-wise, if not a bit pricey. Highly recommended. | | liinis (21), Helsinki, Finland | | October 1, 2008 Friendly service and well poured beer. a bit expesive maybe, but nowadays the special beers cost a lot in any place. quite small and always when I go there there’s a lot of people, but good atmosphere. | | FatPhil (121), Espoo, Finland | | October 7, 2007 Quiet, relaxed place. Almost always one English cask real ale, always served well, which is why I go there occasionally. A little bit remote, but right on a couple of tram routes, so easy to get to. Pleasant friendly staff. | | sayravai (93), Helsinki, Finland | | February 5, 2005 A decent selection of Belgians. A bit smoky. Quite basic but ok. | | Diplomat (37), YPÄJÄ, Finland | | February 4, 2005 [ Updated April 22, 2005 ] AVOID THIS PLACE. SERVICE HAS TURNED TO BE THE LOUSIEST IN THE CITY!! Really.
Place is owned by S group which is trying to create some kind of real beer cafe image but I have never experienced so bad service!
Useful selection of trappists, for example Achel served here. Bavaria has succeeded in marketing LaTrappe on the tap here... sadly...
The name means a "Black-throated Diver" and it was given in order to be a counter attack against the beer pubs named according to the fishes in Helsinki. A diver eats fish.
Last time I visited here service was lousiest ever: they had run out of 5 beers on the list, not marked and those happened to be the ones I ordered! The waiter was "just working here" as he explained. They had white beer weeks going on, beers marked on a specific list, but they had run out of most of beers and not marked it on the list!!
Finally Rochefort 8 was serviced in a tulip glass because the waiter had never served a beer!! It was my first trappist in a long tulip glass in 20 years...
