| jpm30 (57), East Central, Georgia | | January 25, 2006 [ Updated March 29, 2008 ] (3/08 Update... Chimay and a few German imports are gone. Great store for BMC products, something is always on sale. Craft/micro beer selection is down, for me now, the third best store in Macomb.)...This store is separated part of the Hy-Vee Food Store. This is the second best beer store in Macomb, in my opinion. Selection is average with one Belgian, Chimay, some micros and your standard imports. They have a selection of beers by Anchor Stream, Breckenridge, Goose Island, Boulevard, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, Rogue and Red Hook. Imports are like the ones you see everywhere, Bass, Red Stripe, Harp, etc..., and they have a few German and UK beers and a few ciders. Outside some cheap 40oz. malt liquors, Chimay is most likely only thing above 6% abv you’ll find here. Service is friendly, but hands off, only the manager has a little knowledge about beers. Turnover rate is good, so freshness shouldn’t be a problem, but check the best before dates to be sure. I recently found some Boulevard and UK imports that had expired. You can buy lotto tickets here. They have at times sold micro variety packs, like from Goose Island, and most of the seasonal beers are usually from the macrobrewers. Good place for Leinenkugel’s. Like everywhere in Macomb, no Sunday package sales. No singles/mix-a-six section like in Galesburg. | | Terminus (145), Las Cruces, New Mexico | | January 12, 2004 This is so cool that JMerritt entered this place into the database. I attended school at this town (Western Illinois University) and would frequent this store for beer. They dont have the greatest selection, but enough for such a small town. I used to buy Sierra nevada, Rogue, Goose Island, and Anchor products at this store regularly. Many memories with my dorm buddies making beer runs here. | | JMerritt (53), Macomb, Illinois | | January 7, 2004 [ Updated October 9, 2009 ] I won’t kid you; this is owned by Hy-Vee. It boasts the largest selection of beers in Macomb, but that isn’t really saying much. The staff is usually open to suggestions for what to stock on their shelves, which is good. They carry mostly macros, but will special order for you if they can get their hands on it. Prices on imports and micros are a little high. They also carry a small number of sakés. Update October 2009: mix-a-sixes now available, though at a pricey $9.99. |
