38 reviews for Woodman’s Food Market (Madison)
| bonk0076 (13), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | November 9, 2009 A big grocey store with a big liquor department. Staff is basically just clerks, so you need to know what you are looking for. Prices can’t be beat. The only knock I had on the place was that the craft single serve section, although 8 feet long, really focused on the 12oz singles rather than the 22oz and 750s. I found as good of a selection of craft bombers at the next store I went to which was an eigth of the size in that department. | | zizzybalubba (33), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | August 10, 2009 I visited the Gammon Rd. location during GTMW. The selection and prices were very impressive as compared to other Madison stores. I would probably have more to say about the size of this store had I not just visited Jungle Jim’s in Ohio the day before. But it’s still a massive store. Great selection of just about everything I could think of as someone visiting from out of state. I will say that the one drawback would be that there are not some of the rarer beers here. For that you may want to seek a more specialty store. But for most beers you will find them here. | MrPickles (1), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | April 29, 2009 great selection and great prices. No real Beer people, so know what you want. | npcraig (1), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | March 2, 2009 Great service, great selection, and great food (it is a grocery store!). Grab some food and grab any beer you like from Woodman’s. On top of all of that, in most cases they have the best prices on food (and alcohol). | | nuplastikk (20), Madison, Wisconsin | | November 18, 2008 Ok, Woodman’s is an absolute must-hit for the beer enthusiast living in or visiting Madison, WIsconsin. Stellar selection of WI beers, decent MI as well. Nothing wild as far as imports go, but above par for sure. The prices are great, the best I saw. | | msante79 (73), Orland Hills, Illinois | | September 7, 2008 [ Updated May 25, 2009 ] I went to the location on Milwaukee St. This place is huge and has the biggest liquor dept that I have ever seen in a grocery store. It was a mad house and walked around for ten minutes before finding the liquor dept. Anyway they do have a big beer selection but it is almost all in sixers and have very few bombers and a small single selection. A lot of the stuff they had I could get in Illinois but they did have Central Waters, Bells, Viking, Stone, Tyrenna, Oskar Blues, Smuttynose, New Glarus and Ale Asylum which I cannot get in Illinois. Rerate: This place is much improved and has a great singles selection. Great place | | tennisjoel (29), Shakopee, Minnesota | | August 11, 2008 We stopped at Woodmans at the Milwaukee St location on our way out of town after the Great Taste event 2008. The liquor store is connected to a small grocery store, and was relatively easy to find. The selection was pretty good, although I was looking for DFH 120 Minute and World Wide Stout, which they had neither of.
I did find a nice surprise, an oatmeal impy stout (anniversary series) from Stone.
One thing about Woodmans (I wouldn’t have known this except for the fact that I was with ElGaucho who’s been there before) is that they only accept cash or debit cards. They need to post this somewhere on the outside of the store. Actually they need to catch up with the 21st century and change that policy. Then, when I tried to pay with a debit card, it wasn’t accepted because of MN bank laws. But the cashier didn’t know anything, so he had to call over the manager, who explained the reason, and was courteous, however wasn’t apologetic about it to me or the rest of the now long line that had formed in back of me. In the end, I had to hit up the cash machine and come back to pay for my beer.
On the plus side, the prices were on the low side. | | esjaygee (103), Oak Creek, Wisconsin | | June 22, 2008 Gammon Road location. As with every woodman’s I’ve been to, huge liquor store with plenty of beer to go around. A smattering of beers were available for a build your own six pack (in the cooler) for $9. Plenty of Wisconsin breweries carried here, including a few I can’t find at my local Woodman’s (Oak Creek) like Fauerbach, Falls and Viking. Nothing special here in terms of service, just a big selection of beer at decent prices. | | Illini08 (34), Raleigh, North Carolina | | May 3, 2008 Was here quite a while ago. Tons of New Glarus and Capital beers to choose from. All in sixers though which limited what I was able to pick up. Prices were very fair. | | pepsican (26), The Student Ghetto, Iowa | | March 22, 2008 Huge warehouse selection. I think they just order as much stuff as they can, and in bulk. If you can’t find it here, it probably isn’t in madison. I found founders kbs, bells expo/hopslam/etc, all new glarus, tyranena, etc. Great prices, discounts for buying multiples, etc. I loaded up my cart with $200+ worth of stuff and turns out they don’t take credit. Woops! Make sure you remember that if you go, I don’t carry cash and walked out empty handed. |
