| msante79 (73), Orland Hills, Illinois | | November 14, 2009 Stopped in today on way from Detroit to Chicago. Located in nice quite town. Shares building with party store and there is a tattoo palor and the Dark Horse general store across the parking lot. Small little tap room with the entire ceiling covered with mug club mugs each numbered and personalized. About 10 tables and a small bar with about 10 stools. Only 9 beers on tap and 7 of them can be found in bottles at most quality beers stores. Had the brown ale which was pretty good. Had the Beef and Blue sandwich which was pretty damn tasty. Prices were reasonable. $11 for pint and sandwich with comes with chips. Really chill and relaxed vibe. They only had one girl running the whole show and she was doing a pretty good job. The general store was really cool as they had a bunch of home brew supplies and a bunch of different clothing for sale. Picked up a pint glass. With more breweries would have stores like this. They also had a large beer garden with a stage so it looks like they can throw a pretty good party if they wanted to. Only minor issue was I wish they more brewery only brews available but this is is still an awesome little place and is definitely worth a road trip. | hankchinaski (4), Florida does not count - explanation | | October 20, 2009 Was on a brewery tour through Michigan and Dark Horse was every bit the equal Bells and Founders. Loved the atmosphere, great service, next time I’m up north it will be the first place I return to. | | Sammy (273), Toronto, Ontario | | August 6, 2009 Worth the stop if you are passing nearby because of the beer. Some experiments here, and they tasted very good. A bit hard to find, you need a to print a map and then look around, signs would be great. A little place, that at night gets buzy, bottles are sold next store at a regular store. I am told the food is good. Staff were very friendly, its like you really are in a small safe town. Middle America. Thousands of very tastefully made ceramic mugs hanging from the ceiling for "club members" who have visited frequently. There were a half dozen on tap, and served perfect.
| | dmschefke (34), Eastpointe, Michigan | | August 4, 2009 Nice little place kinda in the middle of no where. Obviously a local favorite based on all the mug club members (hang above head) and interesting mugs at that. Selection leaves a bit to be desired, but they have great beers to make up for it. I wouldn’t go out of my way again to come back to this place, but would be more than willing to go again under the right circumstances. | | jeffmw (14), | | July 17, 2009 A gem in the middle of no where. The bar looks like it should be frequented by swill-drinkers, but it’s clearly not. There are mugs all over the ceiling from their mug club. The menu was pretty good and the beer was excellent. My only criticism is I wish they had more than 6 taps. | | Taverner (77), San Ramon, California | | May 22, 2009 [ Updated May 26, 2009 ] Very much a "mom and pop" brewery. Folks there are really nice, the beer, excellent of course. The bar atmosphere is laid back, and the place definitely fits in with the charm that is Marshall, MI. | | kseecs16 (141), Naperville, Illinois | | May 4, 2009 Shares a lot with a tatoo parlor and party store which makes for fairly small parking lot, but it is not an issue. Small bar with mugs all over the ceiling, walls, everywhere. Better to head out to the left of the trailer in to the spacious beer garden with another set of taps and picnic tables set up. The were building a stage as well when we were there. 9 beers on tap. Awesome vibe, eclectic crowd. Just a real relaxed, really cool place. | rudyed (7), Michigan does not count - explanation | | May 3, 2009 Great place. Food is good, love the atmosphere. Their beer is fantastic. Whenever in the area, you have to stop here. | | punkrkr27 (22), Berkley, Michigan | | April 21, 2009 Very eclectic atmosphere. The entire inside of the bar is covered with mug club members’ mugs. A good selection of taps including seasonals like Double Crooked Tree. There’s a big outdoor area that was great for the nice warm evening we were there. The service was really slow but friendly. Food was very good. Nice subs on toasted french bread and the Calzones looked big, stuffed full of ingredients and delicious. | | chicagodri (36), Chicago, Illinois | | April 14, 2009 Stopped by here on my way to Canada. Perfect stop for me from Chicago. Interesting place with mugs hanging everywhere on the walls. Grabbed the last seat on a Wednesday night, but as the night went on it cleared out. Good food, I really enjoyed their pizza and reasonable prices. The beer list isn’t always up to date, but they had plenty of brews to select from. Good service, once I try a few more brewpubs on the way to Canada I will be back here for sure again. |
