RC8 (2), Toronto, Ontario does not count - explanation | | December 3, 2009 [ Updated December 4, 2009 ] The manager was a complete idiot. Thick as a rock. I regularly visit the likes of Beer Bistro and Volo with my friends and they never ask me to show an ID. I’m 20. Last night they asked me for one and I showed them it - then they went after my friend (same age) who had forgotten his. Not only did they not serve him, but they ’kicked’ him out of the place. They were as rude and unpolite as possible. The manager and the waitress and everyone else was clueless about beer. Small town mentality. After I went on a rant against the manager, he followed me a good few metres OUTSIDE the door of the establishment, at which point I had to ask him to keep his distance.
Prices are good and selection is decent (not great). But the people who run the place are nausea-provoking. | | mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | August 10, 2008 Visited on late on a Saturday afternoon in October 2007. Very open sports-pub feel, lots of big windows and modern seats and a long, long bar with taps the length of it. Boneless buffalo chicken wings were quite tasty. Beer selection is numerous and interesting to any palate my first 10W30 experience, which always catches my eye (thanks to memories of Crappy Tire). Overall, seems a great place for a party. | | jerc (143), Toronto, Ontario | | October 15, 2007 Visited just after they opened for the day on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly quiet then. Shared an appetizer of Buffalo Chicken which was tasty but pretty basic fare. They had an Octoberfest menu available which looked like it was probably pretty solid. Tap list is impressive. Pint of Church Key West Coast seemed to be in good shape. The waitress brought us out little sampling notes which did not particularly interest me but it is a neat touch for people trying new things. Service was friendly and seemed reasonably knowledgeable.
They had Hacker Pschorr Original Octoberfest/Marzen on the menu, but they either brought me the Edelhell by mistake, twice, or they are pouring the rarer but far less interesting HP Octoberfest Lager despite the menu clearly describing the Marzen. Atmosphere is cozy yet swanky, lots of tvs showing sports was nice but a bit overbearing at the same time. Would go back, but would not make a special trip for it. Definitely the best beer selection in Mississauga, but most of those are easily available elsewhere, including the LCBO. | beercontroller (1), Mississauga, Ontario does not count - explanation | | August 16, 2007 The food was middle of the road, a little overpriced, but ok, however I didnt go for the food. The service was good, albiet the servers could be more knowledgable (a la Bier Markt) the speed and quality of service was 100%. I think they have somethign over 100 beers on tap, nothing really rare, but definately some that you cant try on tap anywhere else. The prices are decent. I talked to the manager and he seemed like a real beer lover to me, so the bar should be going in a good direction, they seem to add a couple new beers a month. The place has a euro/modern feel to it, which is a bit pretentious, and doesnt really seem like it would appeal to the same crowd as the beer selection, but the girls I was with liked the atmosphere, and I liked the beer, so it works for me. | | mephisto (37), , Taiwan | | July 29, 2007 food wise it’s just a typical bar, i had a rib for $20 and it’s ok. beer wise this is a great place, with an unual amount of tap beer and taster option, it’s among the best beer places in toronto. | | Slacks (14), Bolton, Ontario | | November 27, 2006 Incredible looking place, no expense has obviously been spared. Minus one for having it way too dark, and they seem to know as they asked us if it was too dark. Yes, turn the lights up a bit. Service - they try so hard you can’t help but be impressed. Unfortunately they’re new and the service staff needs work, but the manager was incredibly attentive. With 115 taps the selection is excellent; ask for the seasonals and features, they have them but they don’t advertise them. Food sounds great and tastes pretty good, and I know in a few months when the kinks are worked out it’ll be great. Overall a good experience, I’ll be back. | | Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | November 14, 2006 The largest selection of taps in Canada, every Guiness, British, German tap around Ontario. No experiments, no casks. Cheap parking but far from the roar of the city, out of the way for just about anybody. A large place, pretentious, with unknowledgeable downtown disco type staff-for them its a place to work closer to home. Dark and old music way too loud. Vast majority were at the bar, where conversation could be had. Worth seeing, but will only come out here again when exceptional different beer to be had. |
