Hadn’t been here since 2003, before I was quite so hardcore, but I remembered it in an "oh yeah" moment immediately upon entering. Smallish, cramped, dark woods, low ceilings, and exactly the right kind of vibe for a place like this (DJ in the corner spinning kinda tired jams slightly detracted, but fuck it). Food was minimal pub fare but competently rendered. The service was quite good and friendly; I just wish my French wasn’t so shitty. Anyways good folks, and the beer is of course outrageous. A must.

dark and cozy with a number of exclusive beers. i had the entire flight, everything they offer, and it was inconsistant. this coming from a guy that dislikes the beer at many local brewpubs and has had their bottle beers- there here some misses. overall though, one of the better places i’ve been. you can’t go to montreal and not stop in, and as long as you go to st bock when in town, the trip to montreal is worth it.

The ambiance of this place is quite special, it is very dark inside and quite cramped because many people want to drink beer from one of quebec’s best micros but the bar is very small. The service is surprisingly good for that many people in the bar. There is no real food menu, I think you can get nachos or peanuts if you aren’t thirsty enough for one of their 17 taps of beer made on spot. The prices are really low for the quality of the beer served and this place is well worth a stop for anyone going by montreal.

Un belle brasserie pour prendre un où deux bières brassée par les Dieu du ciel et par chance ils embouteilles maintenant plusieurs bonne bières que l’on peu siroter à la maison pour un moindre coût.

Arrived in a very tipsy state after a day at Mondial. The place was freakin’ packed, and the five of us were able to come up with chairs, but not a table. We got our first round at the bar, before a server found us in our corner. The place was smaller than I expected, but the selection was brilliant. We didn’t eat, so I can’t say anything about the food. Someday. Someday....

Apart from being well-designed, relaxing, staffed by efficient, friendly and chatty people the reason I think this place gets its reputation is that it brews archetypal beers. The British cask ale tastes like a British cask ale, the Irish stout like an Irish stout, the Czech lager like a Czech lager and so on, not just what some guy who once went to a beer festival where they had this blah blah thought it should taste like or could imitate from a brewing book. Also, to tatse the difference between an intelligent / great place and a fashionable / popular one, try the totally unnecessary but nice touch asssiette des fromages Quebecois, by candlelight ideally.

Popped in here for a nice session with two friends when I was in town recently. We got their just at opening to a mostly empty room... within two hours the place was jammed, so clearly they’re doing something right. I can’t say too much that hasn’t been said before. Large open room with some vaguely gothic decorations hanging fromt he ceilings and walls. Lots of windows, but still maintains low light. Gets really loud when it’s full, but that’s to be expected. Great service considering just how busy the place was. Lots of styles and very few duds. Definitely a place I’ll be visiting again when I’m back in Montreal.

Made the trek a few days ago, and was impressed to say the least. I know their beers are awesome in the bottle, but I really wanted to see how awesome they are at the source. I was not disappointed! Peche Mortel 6 months in oak barrels, Rigor Mortis Abt 2 years old, guest brews from Japan I’ve never even heard of! Wow. I managed a quick tour of the tiny, and I mean tiny, brewery from some of the brewers. The place was incredibly efficient, especially for how small their brewing space is. Beers can be ordered in 6oz, 12oz, 20oz (Pint), and pitcher sizes. Food was ok+. Ordered the nachos which were decent, and the Quebec cheese plate which rocked! Just wish I knew what was on it... Parking is a bit difficult in the area. If you go, make sure to walk the block and a half to Super Marché Rahman for lots of Canadian brews.
