JulienHuxley (8), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec does not count - explanation | | October 12, 2009 Very nice tap selection (33) full of good choices from Quebec micros. Not a word on the service, which was excellent. There is some food but you better like smoked meat, it’s good but there is little variety. The prices are reasonable. | | TheJester (20), Peterborough, Ontario | | August 24, 2009 Best tap selection I’ve found in Montreal. Kinda their version of Toronto’s Cest What? We arrived early afternoon, and the place was just about empty. Long with lots of wood and a small, shady patio out back. Beer lists all over the walls. Service was very friendly. Food selection was very basic, but what we had was good. I recommend the smoked meat pizza. Kinda out of the way if you’re staying downtown, but definitely worth a visit or six. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | July 5, 2009 Stopped by this place on a Saturday afternoon and liked it so much, I went back on Sunday. 30-ish taps from all over Quebec in a wide variety of styles. A simple food menu with small pizzas, sandwiches and cheese plates featured. The beer is well-selected and the owner/bartender is very knowledgeable about the beers on offer. Well-priced as well, with each taster running about 2-2.50. A bright indoor bar area and a nice shaded leafy back terrace. My server probably could have been more attentive on the second visit but she wasn’t so bad that it got annoying. If you want to see what is going on in the brewing scene in Quebec, this is the place to find out. | Fred82 (7), Montreal, Quebec does not count - explanation | | May 18, 2009 Visited this place on a Saturday at about 3pm. Great tap selection, service is ok but I don’t think they can really help you choose what is best among their offerings. You can check their website to see what they have on tap. When I was there, their selection was a bit disappointing with stuff from Brasseur et Frère, Brasseur de Montréal and other ordinary brewery like that. They had 4-5 Hopfenstark and 2 Trois-Mousquetaire and 1 Dieu Du Ciel so I still had enough great beer to choose from. There was a chess game lying on another table so we decided to play a game or two. I also saw people playing cards. We ordered some Pretzels with a beer mustard. The combo was rather nice. Nice place ! Will go again ! Place rating #6 | | mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | March 23, 2009 Visited late on a Friday night last May, it was playing loud funky music inside while outside people were relaxing on a big leafy green patio. Brick-work and dark wooden tables and benches complete the feeling of an old sprawling house-turned-bar. Food was tasty, bavoroi a l’erable (field cow with maple). Crowd is young, at odds with the sketchy neighbourhood you walk through to get to the place. Service was friendly enough. Beer selection is quite good on tap, lots of locals and some imports. Overall a good experience. | | MaxxDaddy (15), Hoboken, New Jersey | | September 20, 2008 Went here back in February. Man, what a place! A nice dimly lit place that was very laid back. Had some music playing in the background as well. The tap list was pretty solid I forget exactly how many taps there were. Had a good selection of Quebec’s micros from Bieropholie, DdC, Hopfenstark, etc. I cannot recommend the smoked meat sandwich highly enough. Along with a solid cheese plate, it made for a great evening. | | jerc (141), Toronto, Ontario | | June 4, 2008 Longish but quite doable walk up from Dieu du Ciel. I really like the room, we sit in the cozy benches in the corner. The patio looks nice but fairly busy. Service is very friendly and cheerful. Our waitresses English was only marginally better than my french (ie. not great) but we managed. Tap list is pretty lengthy (29), but the number of stars is a lower percentage, with the bulk being made up of some of the better mid-range Quebec microbreweries. We ordered a sausagey sandwich which came with a simple salad. The hot mustard on the sandwich was unexpected and powerfully sinus clearing. Damn! Not super convenient to downtown, but I could see spending a long evening here if I was a local or had more time in town. Very nice. | | swoopjones (115), Buffalo, New York | | April 9, 2008 went here due to high recommendations from blankboy & hogtownharry. great place. friendly atmosphere huge selection of Quebec drafts. cheese tray was good. fred is very knowledgeable & a good guy | | tupalev (56), Waterloo, Ontario | | February 13, 2008 [ Updated February 4, 2009 ] My new favourite place in Montreal Stunning 29 tap list, all Quebec and mostly all very good (from what I sampled and saw). Great interior - like Volo in Toronto with higher ceilings and twice the space. Clean, well lit, nice bar. Good snacking foods. Beers in great condition (did not try the cask). Montreal finally has a beer bar! And based on this selection and service, it will be hard to top. An easy 15-20 minute walk (or 5 minute cab ride) from DDC. |
