15 reviews for Midtown Wine and Spirits
BeerBaby (7), , Tennessee does not count - explanation | | September 24, 2009 Mostly the same beers here as everywhere else in town. Still don’t have the Kindl Berliner Weisse I was looking for or anything like it. Not that many sour beers that I have taken a liking to. Average prices and service. | | ManvsCity (17), Redmond, Washington | | June 20, 2009 Low alcohol side of the store is mostly six packs with a couple of refrigerator shelves of bombers. This side doesn’t take AmEx, while the high alcohol side does. Don’t even try to figure out Tennessee alcohol laws. The high alcohol side has a fair selection of local and Belgians, all crammed into a small space directly in the front window behind the cash registers. An earlier post claims the shades are drawn to keep the sunlight off the beer, but I didn’t see it on two sunny afternoon trips I made there. Those poor beers were cooking! As this was the best beer selection I found in Nashville, I ended up driving to Bowling Green for beer that is properly cared for. If, on the other hand you are looking for Bourbons, Midtown has a beautiful display of those in the center of the store. | | stoad (21), laguna niguel, California | | December 28, 2008 In town for a conference and looking for some east coast beers. They had a decent selection and the staff was friendly but seemed that they had more wine than beer knowledge. I found a few bottles worth taking home. I didn’t realize until later (and no one there mentioned it) they had a lower alcohol side. Luckily I figured it out before leaving TN. Stupid alcohol laws. | | Butters (150), Virginia | | November 2, 2008 Both sides of this store are impressive. Terrific selection. They also seem to get new beers and seasonals before anyone else (they had celebration ale in October!) Some of the lowest prices I’ve seen in Nashville, especially on the low alc side. they also break sixers. The high alc side has a daunting selection of wines. I was a little concerned that they kept some of their beers on display in the front window, but after talking with a clerk, he assured me that they pulled the blinds before the sunlight could ever touch the beer. Great store. | | jrob21 (42), Atlanta, Georgia | | September 2, 2008 Great service on both sides of this easy to find store. Swung by here last weekend while in town for a wedding. Selection was great and complete with locals like Yazoo and Regionals like Schafly, Bluegrass and some other things not distributed further south like Boulevard. Let me break their six packs which totally made my day. Also had some pre-mixed sixers by style if you are interested in that. Awkward layout but the service and selection would keep me going back here. | | nqualls (35), Nashville, Tennessee | | August 17, 2008 Wandered into this place after finding it on RB. Several of the other reviewers have hit the point on the head. The beer side has the same selection, at roughly the same prices as does Frugal MacDoogal’s and J. Barleycorn’s. The liquor side had several things that neither of the other stores had. Prices were average to high, but that is typical of Nashville. Worth a trip to get some different beers at this location. | | beerguy101 (47), Newark, California | | May 29, 2008 Despite being a little easier to find, I don’t think that Midtown has the selection that Frugals does. They don’t have anywhere near the selection of singles and the beer on the liquor side is in a awkward place right next to the windows. That said they did have stuff that Frugals doesn’t so it is worth a trip to both. | | SpringsLicker (89), Tennessee | | August 3, 2007 The same stuff here is at all of the other stores in town. Another place where the beers are too close to the front window. | | allfreej (59), Louisville, Kentucky | | February 13, 2007 Nice selection, reasonably priced. Staff was friendly, but not knowledgeable. The best bet for purchasing decent beer in Nashville. | | decaturstevo (59), decatur, Tennessee | | December 2, 2006 [ Updated December 5, 2006 ] Good selection of big beers. Had a few singles to choose from. Not many Stones to choose from but not there fault they said they will take all the distributer will give them when he will, which isn’t often or much. My only problem they had some odds and ends bottles that they would not sell as singles for some reason. The guy just said nope we can’t sell that as a single. I don’t know what was going on with it. Re-rate went to the 5% side the next day a huge selection of beers the best I’ve seen in Tn by far. Overall it is a pretty good place. |
