37 reviews for Peculier Pub
| Chalsk (10), North Caldwell, New Jersey | | December 25, 2009 This is a dive bar so the service is of that ilk, but being picky. Other than that, this is the mecca of beer in the Village. The beer menu is amazing. I have left this place many a time, drunk and merry. If in NYC and a beer lover, check out this place. Its a big NYU hangout, but even the thirty-somethings can have some fun here. | | altonbrownd (77), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | December 12, 2009 Straightforward bar with nice selection of internationals in bottles. I added Haiti and Nicaragua. Barbados was sold out. Worth visiting. | | goatboy (16), Alberta | | October 8, 2009 A lower level bar with woden tables and a juke box, a little run down but Im here for the beer, quite a loud enviorment but a great selection of beer in the bottle and some good ones on tap as well. The food was good we had some great nachos, the handle fell of the bathroom door and the bathroom was a mess + no soap, Ok place to stop for a couple of drinks. | | joebudzjoe (19), Connecticut | | July 7, 2009 I first visited the bar on a summer Friday night around 8 PM so the college crowd was home and plenty of space was available. The dark wood walls are decorated with bottlecap artwork. A few TVs play local sports while the wait service is quick to serve. The jukebox has a great selection and the prices, especially for the food, is very fair for NYC. This is one of my favorite spots in the village. | | Leighton (20), New York, New York | | June 15, 2009 This is my favorite pub in NYC. The selection of beers is the most extensive I have encountered anywhere in the world. Only about 15 beers on draught but hundreds of others in bottles. The prices are reasonable for both the beers and the food. The pub tends to be quite packed, and thus service and seating capacity often suffer. The crowd is typically college students and 20-somethings. I love the Peculier and I plan to continue going there. | | CUJO (19), Brooklyn, New York | | May 30, 2009 If you are looking for high class, keep walking. Dive bar with no pretense. Low ceilings, very good bar style food... excellent beer selection. Service is very attentive, willing to offer opinions on the selections. You come here for the beer, end of story. | homebrewer302 (6), Wilmington, does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2009 A friend took me to this place near NYU since I was in search of good beer. The place is a dive bar, no question. The tables are all worn wood with people’s initials or pictures carved into them. The walls have a bunch of cool murals made from bottle caps. I found it fun to look through them and try to identify the beer used strictly based on the bottle cap (not as easy as you think).
This appeared to be a big college hangout. The price of beer was surprisingly reasonable for NYC, with a rather large selection to choose from. I had a Nostradamus Belgian Brown ale and a bottle of DFH Olde School. both were priced $6.00 and $8.00 respectively. There were a couple of surprises though that may steer visitors away:
1) Cash Only
2) You pay by the round
I would not recommend trying the food. The reason I didn’t order any food here is because although the bathroom said "All Employees are required to wash hands," there was no soap in the men’s bathroom... Do you really want to know | | jredmond (37), New Jersey | | May 8, 2009 Ive been here a couple of times. Low ceiling, cool atmosphere. Extensive bottle list and interesting draft choices. Great bar for a beer nerd. | | Pwn3d (39), Manhattan, New York | | April 23, 2009 [ Updated May 3, 2009 ] Went here april 22, 09. Sampled 2 Goose Islands and a Ukrainian lager. Really good selection, sorted by country. I imagine you can get some brews from hard to find countries crossed off your list here. Ceilings are about 7ft. Wood everywhere is carved with people names, etc. Good bar, looks like its very fun. Prices were good. FYI its Cash only | | BiddleBrau (33), Midland Park, New Jersey | | April 6, 2009 Subterranean establishment off Bleeker so it’s pretty dark. very casual, decent taps, much broader list for bottles. Basic food menu. It was very quiet on a Sunday afternoon but I’ve been here when it’s much livelier. Open space in front of the bar with a number of tables for larger groups. Cool mosaics made out of bottle caps throughout. Unpretentious. |
