| Slipstream (25), | | October 26, 2009 [ Updated October 28, 2009 ] A very attractive, tasteful brewpub in Germantown, Philly. They specialize in "flat breads" - their own style of freshly made pizzas - and beers they make on the preimises. Two storeys, with big brewing kettles out in the open. Selection is a little limited, but EB&B is a very nice place that is worth a visit. The servers were friendly and helpful, and there is interesting artwork on the walls, too. | | MrChopin (19), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | August 16, 2009 Small, upscale, modern layout of large pipes, green paint, and spacious walls. Nice service, friendly and chatty. Only four house beers, many guests. Didn’t get to try the food, but heard a lot about the pizza. Pretty inexpensive. Nice place, but the lack of house beers will keep me from making this a regular visit when in town. | | JFGrind (64), Glenside, Pennsylvania | | August 7, 2009 I’ve been slacking Earth Bread + Brewery is less than five miles from my house and months after it opening I’ve finally made it over there. Clean, bright, maybe even a bit spartan establishment with a large dining area and small lounge/bar upstairs; downstairs open kitchen and brewing area with (maybe original) bar. Warning for sports fans or plastic fantastic lovers....NO TV’s. However, good music piped through numerous speakers and plenty of reading material make up for it. Limited menu, but great oven baked flatbread and reasonable prices nonetheless. The beer selection was a mix of brewed in-house and guest beers. Germantown Avenue corridor has other options for dining and drinking all in a block or two from EB+B so you don’t have to put all your eggs in one basket. EB+B is a very welcome establishment to the ’hood. | | hopdog (201), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | March 28, 2009 Been meaning to get here for a while now. Somewhat limited hours (for me)...I’d prefer to get out for lunch during the week, but no lunch hours other than the weekend. Pizzas (which is all they really have) are good. Only 4 house beers on tap with a ton of other guest beers and bottles. With brew pubs, I wish there where more house beers on tap. I would come here again if in the pizza mood... | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | March 21, 2009 Sort of a haul out of town, but reasonably accessible by transit. Very bright, light and airy place. High ceilinged with an open upstairs dining area overlooking the bar area below. Art from a few local artists line the walls and give the place a homey feel. Reclaimed wood floors and a bar that I’ve had many a pint over when it was located at the Collins Bar in Midtown.
The beers were pretty solid. There were two low-gravity taps on which is always a nice change of pace and their pilsner was really excellent. The saison wasn’t all that great, but the pizza and the service were top notch. This is a place worth hitting if you’re in Philly. | | puzzl (70), New York, New York | | March 9, 2009 Very pleasantly surprised! Tom Baker brews all sorts of interesting styles of beers for his new joint, which is a super-mellow "family" type place, natural lit and relaxed with a chill vibe about the whole place. The walls are adorned with local art, which is cool although a lot of the paintings are really ugly. They work for the decor though. The pizzas are solid, and the beer, like everything Tom Baker does, is all over the map. He’ll completely blow a saison even though he’s done tons of awesome examples in the past, yet he’ll absolutely nail a high grav German pils, something I’ve never seen from him at all. Somewhat inconvenient to get too — a 20 minute train ride (that only comes every hour) plus a ten minute walk — however it is worth the trip, at least once. | | blipp (21), Newark, New Jersey | | February 2, 2009 [ Updated June 30, 2009 ] I’ve been here a few times since they’ve opened and have never been disappointed. Well, one time the keg of Berkun’s Finger kicked just before I got there and I was a bit bummed. The service is always spot on, and the bartenders usually know what they’re doing. The food is excellent, my favorite so far has been the seed pizza. If you’re going for just drinks, don’t show up at dinner time because it’s crowded as hell. Wait until 9 or 10 and the crowd will be significantly better. As for the beer, I am impressed with each new beer I try. The best thing about Earth Bread is that they brew beers you don’t often see at brewpubs. Of the 12 beers in the database right now there are: 2 different mild ales, a gruit, a sahti, an altbier, a baltic porter, a biere de garde, and a smoked wheat. Add this to the list of top notch beer destinations in Philly. | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | January 25, 2009 Three months after their opening I finally got down to Earth Bread and I am glad I did. The only disappointment I encountered was that Tom only had three beers on tap, but the guest tap list more than filled in with the likes of Pliny and Ten Fidy. The house beers were solid. My wife and I split two small pizzas (traditional and veggie) and both were excellent. Atmosphere was laid back, diverse crowd with some other beer geeks hanging out at the upstairs bar. It was crowded but not the point where it got very annoying. Service was very attentive and fairly knowledgeable. Definitely worth a stop or a detour. | | LilBeerDoctor (29), East Setauket, New York | | January 11, 2009 This is an awesome new brewpub in the suburbs of Philly. The brewer is the former brewer of Heavyweight, so he knows what he’s doing and is putting out some really quality stuff. I was there on a Sunday night so it certainly wasn’t hopping, but there were people there and it was nice and relaxing. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about beer and he liked striking up conversations with everyone. I think that of all the bars I’ve been to, this one served beer the best. They had a special glass rinser, so glasses were very clean, and the foam was specially wiped off before it was served to you. They only had 4 house taps, but they did have a bunch of guest taps which were pretty decent. This brewpub is all about the interesting beer styles- they had on a bitter, ESB, gruit, and baltic porter. All were good and I especially liked the gruit. Beers were served in 13 oz ($3) or 20 oz ($5), so very reasonable pricing. This is an up and coming brewpub which is only going to get better | | Nate (194), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | January 5, 2009 Had dinner here on a Sunday night. Nice pizzas. Good service (except for that one dude at the pizza oven ... santoslhalper ... he’s a real problem). Anyway, the beers are solid. Tom Baker said hello and I was able to chill out and enjoy the evening. In the cool Mt Airy - Chestnut Hill area of Philly. Worth a stop if you want simple but well-prepared fare and some nice beers on tap and in the bottle. |
