One of my top 3 favorites in Pittsburgh. The place does a brisk lunch business and verything that I’ve had (from buffalo chicken pierogies to beligan frites) has been solid. Afterwork weekdays, it becomes a bit more of a regulars place, but for me that was another plus. And you get the newcomers who drop in as well. Tap selection may not be huge, but the rotation is frequent, so there is always something interesting on tap. Bottle selection is bigger and between the two, if you can’t find something you like, perhaps just stay with hard liquor. If you get chat with Roess, then you’ll get all of the beer info you need plus some. He definitely knows his stuff.

a loud and rowdy place once when i was there the waitress was cursing out the cook. but to be fair the clientele seemed to be in her favor! they have a few beers on tap maybe 12 or so and the bottle collection was about 65 with mostly good beers in there. i was surprised that three or four i had never seen. place is clearly a place to -let go- like in a college or hardworking persons kind of way. and therefore a mixed crowd or sorts. prices seem good to me since i am a New Yawker. I really liked hanging out in the square area there and these Pa folks are pretty decent.

Pretty decent place. You never know what kind of beer will be on tap as from what I understand it is usually bumping. I went on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty dead. A few nice drafts and a decent Belgian menu for what is in walking distance of anywhere downtown. They had a bunch of stuff in a cooler by the entrance that I didn’t see on the way in and wasn’t on the beer menu. It is easy to miss because dimly lit is an understatement. It has a nice view of Market Square though. The only problem is, the bartender’s knowledge of what they had seemed a little bit lacking. Knew his beer for a non-beer snob wondering what to try, but even with my semi-limited knowledge, he really couldn’t make any good suggestions. It bothered me that he didn’t even know who made the Cherry Saison they had on tap, and told me it wasn’t Southern Tier, even though the tap was labeled with the S.T. Oatmeal Stout label. A little bit pricey for some beers too, but not too bad considering the downtown location.
