30 reviews for Pennsylvania Brewing Company
whaleale (3), Athens, Tennessee does not count - explanation | | September 29, 2009 What’s the story? I was there on 8/1/09. Had 2 samplers and loved all we tried. The next week I heard they closed. Is there a future for Penn. Their Christmas Ale and Penn Dark were excellent. | Sincerely (7), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2009 Cool place which my girl (a non-drinker) likes the best. Situated up on a hill in a very neat old building with a cool cobblestone entrance way (Cobblestones improved my rating from a 65 to 68). It is never crowded, generally there are too few people there! Cool, long wooden tables accompanied with wooden benches which are often times difficult to get in and out of. Good, though over priced food, and yer standard Penn Brewery beers (Weizen is a good summer treat). Worth a trip every now and then.
-Sincerely | | roder60 (31), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | July 8, 2009 Cool old brick building with nice courtyard area nestled in an old industrial area of the city along the Allegheny river. Decent German food (though not the best) and of course Penn beers. IMO the Nikolaus bock is the best by far with Oktoberfest right behind. The rest are ok, but nothing special. If you are there around Oktoberfest time beware. This place gets insane and way overcrowded. Beer is sold then in half gallons and there are so many people it will take you over 30 min to get to the bathroom and back again. One of those things worth experiencing in college, but isn’t overly fun due to the vast amount of people. Other than that, the place is worth normally stopping by if you are in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it. | | WVHouseofBeer (17), Morgantown, West Virginia | | June 15, 2009 This place looks really cool with the old brick buildings on top of a hill overlooking other old brick buildings. It has German style bench seating and reminded me very much so of a miniature beer hall. The menu was composed of common German fare and it was excellent, though a bit pricey. Their beer isn’t great but it’s decent, my favorite is the Penn Weizen. The place was extremely busy, but the service was still great. This is definitely a place that I will be coming back to. | kcmo19 (1), Morgantown, West Virginia does not count - explanation | | April 7, 2009 This place looks like an old German brewery, with German style bench seating. The food was excellent, though a bit pricey. Their beer is pretty good, my favorite is the Penn Weizen. The place was extremely busy, but the service was still great. This is definitely a place that I will be coming back to. | | Spinshag (11), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | February 12, 2009 I love Penn Weizen. I repeat, I LOVE Penn Weizen. I have bought 4 kegs of it. I have thrown two Oktoberfests with it. It is amazing. I starting this love of all Penn products back in 1997 in college. I just wish it would stay in the historical site it is in. I also hope the quality does not diminish in it’s new location. | | LinusStick (29), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | February 3, 2009 I wanted to go to this classic place before it was gone. Very nice place. I love the entrance. It looks like an old German town. A cobblestone road leads you between a few old style buildings. The restaurant is pretty small but has a ton of character. German style bench seating and great German food. I just picked something on the menu randomly (I couldn’t make out what a lot of it was) and was presently surprised. A huge piece of pork on a bed of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Wasn’t the sausage I was thinking it would be but delicious. The place was empty so the service was fine. I’ve had their beers before but I can say their St Nikolaus bock is a smokey treat from the tap. | | blipp (21), Newark, New Jersey | | February 2, 2009 Very fun place. Anywhere that has an accordian player is a winner in my book. The beers are nothing to write home about, but they’re decent and easy to drink. The food is a touch on the pricy side, but was totally worth it in my book. The service is very good. A great place that is certainly worth visiting for dinner if you’re in the area. | | hopscotch (152), Vero Beach, Florida | | January 21, 2009 Rustic and bare-bones, the place is unremarkable in almost every way. Wooden benches to sit on, nice wooden bar with a copper top, no TVs, German fare that I didn’t eat. There are several of their own beers on tap and they have six packs and bombers available for carry out. Much of the brewing equipment is viewable from the drinking/eating area... kinda neat in that you can see the tops of large metal vessels coming up through the floor and you just know that they are actually much larger and seated on the first floor of the building. As far as the selection goes, Penn is a lager place and I’m more of an ale guy. Still, I’d like to go back when I have time to eat and take more of the place in. I just stopped by to quickly try a couple lagers and pick up a few bottles to go. | | NelsonCrowle (11), Florida | | August 18, 2008 Visited 31 July 2008 (Thursday) at 2PM. Very German style beer and food. Restaurant was a series of benches with tables. German sausage/cheese/pickles/vegetables/bread appetizer platter is huge! Good service from the bartender. Restaurant was pretty much empty at this time of day. Beers were generally above average, with the Kaiser Pils and Penndemonium standing out as very good.
