30 reviews for Deschutes Brewery and Public House
gracefullypunk (3), Washington does not count - explanation | | November 22, 2009 Ambiance might not be the best but the food is delicious and the beers on tap that aren’t widely available are usually quite good and interesting. Service was wonderful and server was quite helpful, even being patient with my mother as she attempted to describe which beers she usually drank. | | troopie (40), | | October 10, 2009 Another former warehouse or car park turned into a restaurant. Good comfortable seats, and the Over Here! sign for the loos was a nice touch. Server spoke very fast and was difficult to understand. Food very good, yam fries and an elk burger, cooked exactly as I asked for it. They had only Deschutes beers, as befits a tied house, but they had all the current ones, and a local special. A bit pricy for pub food but not too much. Well worth your time and money if in the area. | | KyotoLefty (131), Kyoto, Japan | | September 12, 2009 Nice looking place with good service, decent prices, very good beer. Went back again, I liked it so much. Upscale and smooth looking, but no unpleasant attitudes. | | can8ianben (67), Pasadena, California | | September 8, 2009 A super nice brewpub. Lots of old wood and carvings, plenty of space to stretch out, and very new. The food was really tasty, and the beer selection was WAY bigger than I expected. I was impressed to say the least. Kind of upscale trendy for a few of my friends, but surprisingly it didn’t bother me too much. | | pdxlover (10), Washington | | August 8, 2009 I love Deschutes beer & was very happy when they opened a place in Portland. But I have to say I am not a huge fan of their public house. Service isn’t always great and the atmosphere just seems so over the top - like what some company might build in NYC or Chicago as a "northwest" theme restaurant. The beer is outstanding but I have been disappointed a few times when they don’t have some of their current seasonals on. The early closing time is also strange (I think Henry’s 12th Street suffers from the same thing). Overall a great place to get tremendous beer, just not a great place to drink it. | | fakepurseninja (49), Washington | | August 3, 2009 The brewery tour was top notch; Everything was laid out well and you really got a good sight of a fantastic working brewery. Guides were great. Free samples of BBXXI, Red Chair and some of the standards. Nice gift shop.
The Public House was a great place for dinner - good food, good service, and an enormous selection of small-batch experiments. Great atmosphere and located right in the heart of historic Bend.
Each is a must-see. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | July 25, 2009 I greatly enjoyed my visit at Deschutes. Their enormous and spacey restaurant is located in the old brewery district in what is now a beautifully restored (awesome windows) industrial loft with very high ceilings. It was a bit disappointing to fall upon such early closing times, but we later came for lunch and the place was pretty much packed. The food was excellent, well-thought, tasty, in perfect size and more than a few interesting choices featured in the menu. The beer selection is nothing short of stunning. You’re at Deschutes and it’s one of the most trustworthy brewery around. Everything they do is good, yet they’re not afraid of venturing into national brewing trends and doing it much better than most. So you have at least 15 beers on tap, 2 on cask and many of them you’ve never heard of. The amped-up black butte was worthy of its smaller brother, the pils was one of the best I’ve had in the last few months. The prices remain democratic. Perhaps not the friendliest place, it’s just too big, but a place I’d dine in frequently given the chance. | | wilsomb (29), State College, Pennsylvania | | June 25, 2009 I went here twice while visiting Portland twice. It has that standard restaurant-oriented brewpub feel, but the beer far surpasses any Rock Bottom I’ve tried. Still this is a weaker spot in Portland. This would be the shining pride of any normal town, but Portland’s awesomeness subsides some of theirs. They have a lot of beers, but only about half are worth anything. This is just another place you have to check out in Portland. | btgpdx (2), does not count - explanation | | June 5, 2009 I’ve always had great service and great food here. Their beers are pretty good, the flagships are what they are, but the small batch ones are either spectacular or spectacularly bad. All of them are more interesting than Green Lakes organic ale. | | Beardface (35), Eugene, Oregon | | May 9, 2009 It’s nice to finally have a Deschutes brewpub in Portland, so that it’s a little bit easier to get all their tap only releases since I don’t really have much occasion to go to Bend. As has been pointed out previously, it’s very evident that a lot of time and money went into the atmosphere of this pub, the building itself is beautiful and actually has a fairly cozy feel relative to its size. The vast variety of tap only selections is really nice, with some stuff I sampled here including Super Jubel, Maple Gold, Crystal Peak Porter and the always delicious Hop Henge. Sadly, the service is fairly subpar, it took quite some time to get our beers when I was in there, and there was a mixup on one of the orders. This could very well be due to how busy it was on a sunday afternoon though, so I’ll cut them a little slack. |
